TP-Link Kasa Devices slow to reconnect after router reboot
I have a large number of TP-Link Kasa smart devices, and they take up to 24 hours to re-connect after a router reboot (with no configuration changes). Why could that be? My router is an RBK50 plus an RBW30 satellite.

Re: TP-Link Kasa Devices slow to reconnect after router reboot
Hello Nornkelly,
Welcome to the NETEGEAR Community!
I understand that you have smart devices that may take a while to reconnect to your RBR50 after a reboot of your system.
When smart devices attempt to connect to a network it must figure out what the IP address of the router is then receive an IP address from the router. This continues until all of the devices that request and internet protocol address are added to the network. Adding multiple devices to a network at the same time floods the router with DHCPDISCOVER requests. The router attempts to create DHCPOFFERS for each device to assign an IP address as well as give the device access to the network. This process can take time depending on the amount of devices that need an IP address assignment.
Best practice is to connect your device to your network after you reboot your Orbi system in small batches until all of the end user devices are connected to the network.
Best,
Kevin

How many is "large number"? My RBR50 with three satellites takes only a few seconds to reconnect over 30 WiFi devices. Only a few of them are Kasa smart switches and smart bulbs.
What are the devices which take 24 hours to reconnect?

Re: TP-Link Kasa Devices slow to reconnect after router reboot
Most of these devices are hardwired into the house power system, so there is no way to "connect them in small batches". After a re-boot, they simply all try to re-connect as soon as they can.
The devices are an assortment of TP-Link Kasa devices, including KS230s, HS220s, KL110s and KP200s, at least. Most of the light switches/dimmers and a number of outlets in my house have been changed out to have these smart devices. There are approximately 50 of them, plus another 30 or so other devices, including TVs, Google Chromecasts, Google Nest hubs, laptops, smart phones, etc.
Thanks,
Norm

A variety of the TP-link Kasa devices are slow to connect, including KS230s, HS220s, etc.

Re: TP-Link Kasa Devices slow to reconnect after router reboot
I see no obvious reason why any WiFi devices would take more than a minute to connect after the router reboots.
Does the Attached Devices display show devices connected to each Orbi unit?
(I have never been a fan of the RBW30 because down close to the floor behind/between furniture just seems like a poor position to locate a WiFi access point. Have noticed that Netgear did not sell a similar "plug in" satellite for the AX product line. Just like they did not create a "speaker" model similar to the RBS40V or an outdoor model like the RBS50Y.)

Re: TP-Link Kasa Devices slow to reconnect after router reboot
Yes, there are devices, including TP-Link Kasa devices, that are attached to all 3 routers/satellites. However, the one that seems to have more of these issues (although it is a little hard to tell for sure) is the RBS50 satellite. At least most of the devices that take a VERY long time to connect seem to be closer to that satellite.
