Wifi Speed Issues on Orbi AC3000

Hi All,

I recently bought Orbi AC3000 Tri Band for my house. I previously had google wifi but moved over to Orbi as friends suggested higher throughout. I have a 1gb comcast line- With ethernet cable, I get upto 950 MPBS (on Arris sb8200) but with Orbi, I only get 450 MBPS tops. Can someone guide here?

Re: Wifi Speed Issues on Orbi AC3000

Are you testing with a ethernet connected PC with the Orbi. Don't use wireless. Wireless speeds on client side hw varies and some device don't support 900+- speeds. You'll need to check with the devices Mfr to see what actual thruput speeds they support. Most mobile devices don't support much over 400-500Mb.

What FW are you using on the Orbi?

Hello- I am tested with Ethernet cable connect to Dell PC. Sorry- I am a rookie in terms of terminology- Can you please tell me what MFR stands for?

My Setup: Arris sb8200)>Orbi AC3000>Mac book pro or iOS.

Please let me know if there is a trouble shooting steps I can follow

Mfr=Manufacturer

Does the Mac have ethernet support? if it does, try testing with that. Most wifi on Mac or mobile devices won't see those higher speeds.

Re: Wifi Speed Issues on Orbi AC3000

Hello-

My mac does not have an ethernet port unfortunately. Is there anyway I can change the band width to 5ghz only?  Also, thank you for the clear explanation about IOS.

Re: Wifi Speed Issues on Orbi AC3000

Does the Mac Book show being connected on 2.4 or 5Ghz. I believe if you hold down on the Option key on the keyboard then select the wifi icon on the top tool bar, this will show you which freqency your connected too.

Orbi is set up to autmatically connect devices to the best frequency automatically. Orbi doesn't allow for using of separate SSIDs between the radios. This would effect how the mesh system works.

The best you can realisticly hope to achieve over WiFI with the Orbi is in the ballpark of 500-600 Mbps, and that will vary depending on how "clean" your WiFi environment is. It also assumed there are no upstream bottlenecks.

Also depends on client HW support as well.

Re: Wifi Speed Issues on Orbi AC3000

Is that because of Orbi Limitations or something to do with the Modem?

Limitations of the client wifi HW.

For reference:

These are theoretical limits based on the Orbi radio configuration. Your actual speeds will be less than this, whis is perfectly normal.
