Sync time with large files
We are currently using many Readynas NVX and the Egnyte Local Cloud. We generally transfer very large files/folder and could be anywhere from 100mb to 1GB. Our Engyte addon is set to sync every 15 minutes. We are wondering if that would cause a problem as the NAS will be uploading the data which could take a few hours and in that time there could be 8-10 syncs happening? Is there a best practice for sync time?
We have also experienced problem where folders located on the Readynas are not synced to the Egnyte cloud until the Readynas has been rebooted. The folders are continuously overlooked until the reboot happens. Both our Readynas and Egnyte addon are the newest versions. Anyone else having that problem?
Otherwise it is a great product and great solution for our company.
thanks,
Grimmleafer

- JohnnyEgnyteAspirantHi Grimmleafer,
So typically we see 2 common scenarios for file sync depending on your internet bandwidth.
If you have fast reliable internet and bandwidth isn't an issue, I'd say stick with the 15 min sync interval. Syncs are prioritized by queue and no sync gets "overwritten". So even if there are 8-10 syncs queued, it will all eventually push through (depending on internet speed).
Now if you have slower internet speed and bandwidth is an issue (the 8-10 syncs are lagging behind), then I'd suggest you do a off-business hour daily sync. We've seen a few businesses that do a scheduled evening sync to minimize bandwidth usage during business hours. The only downside to this approach is that obviously any file edits and changes happen off-line during business hours and won't sync (appear) till the next day. This method halts collaboration quite a bit, so if that is a requirement, then you're better off with the first scenario.
Hope that helps :)
~ Johnny - grimmleaferAspirantThanks for the reply. We will try a daily sync and see how that goes. We don't do any real collaboration so thats not an issue.
