Upgrade Nv+ with WD 2TB HDD's
Hello All,
It has been sometime since I have posted on the forum - years I think. Testament to the quality of the Readynas product really, given I signed up initially for support.
I have had an Nv+ v1 as my NAS for what seems like forever, i forget it is even there. My setup is:
RAIDiator 4.1.7
Disk space: 3163 GB (85%) of 3692 GB used
No space allocated for snapshots
Configuration: X-RAID (Expandable RAID), 3 disks
Status: Redundant
Disk 1 WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 1862 GB , 38 C / 100 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 2 WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 1862 GB , 40 C / 104 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 3 WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 1862 GB , 36 C / 96 F , Write-cache ON OK
With my nas finally starting to fill up I though this weekend would be a good weekend to add another disk. I went to my local hardware web site and found that the drives i installed ages ago are no longer sold. So I went to the the HCL on the readynas web site and found that the WD drive that mostly matches what I have installed is the:
Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARX 2 TB 6Gb/s 64 MB No 3
Different drive, so I thought a customary search on the forums would be in order just in case there have been issues. I was sad to see that there have been a few, but no situation quite matched what I am doing exactly.
I know that the WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 weren't originally on the HCL (I remember the 4k sector issue - albeit not well) but all must have gone well and they must have been put on there as I ended up installing them - and I am not "usually" one to take a risk. I am pretty sure they must have been because, like i said, the nas has just chugged along no issue forever and a day. Only trouble is, I cant seem to find if they were now as the HCL doesn't show past models (that I can see)..... anyway, to my question which I hope a tech can answer ....
If I install a WD20EARX and try and expand my array, am I going to have issues?
Thanks and Regards,
Daniel

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredGet a WD Red 2TB WD20EFRX not a WD20EARX. The WD20EARS-00MVWB0 is a 4k sector drive I think so if performance is currently fine it should also be after expansion.
Download your logs (Status > Logs > Download all Logs), extract the zip contents and post the contents of partition.log - daniojAspirantThanks for the quick reply mdgm. Happy to follow your advice with drive selection. Below are the contents of my partion.log just extracted:

Starting to get out of my depth now, but hope you know what all that means. I appreciate the help. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThat partition.log looks good. You have 4k sector partition alignment.
- daniojAspirantExcellent, thank you.
Just had a search and found my local hardware store has the drive you mentioned for AUD $137:

Will check the thread again in the morning just in case anyone else add's something more, but I know where I am going at 10am otherwise.
Thanks again for your help.
