Working with Amanda Backup?

We are considering buying ReadyNAS 3200 or 4200 boxes as our backup stores. We use Amanda throughout our environment. Will ReadyNAS work with Amanda? Any experiences will be appreciated as this is a must-have for us.

Thanks

  • I'm not familiar with Amanda, but if the system you're running Amanda is Linux/Solaris, I would think you'd be able to access the ReadyNAS over NFS, and if you're Amanda client is Windows, you'd be able to use a mapped drive. Alternatively, you can setup an iSCSI LUN on the ReadyNAS.
  • As Yoh-dah mentions, you can mount ReadyNAS via NFS or iSCSI onto the Linux server running your Amanda Backup Server. Then all you need to do is to create vtapes on the filesystem on ReadyNAS.
  • We have a ReadyNAS 1100, and use ZManda's AMANDA server and clients.

Currently the ZManda server is running under Red Hat Enterprise Linux, backing up the ReadyNAS through a NFS share. Performance is not stellar, and I am looking to install a Zmanda client on the ReadyNAS 1100.

Which package(s) do I download? Is the 1100 a Debian Etch, Sarge, or Lenny release, or something else? (Looking at the http://www.zmanda.com/supported-platforms.html#AEE link from above.)

I also might need help configuring the files, but we have SSH command line access to perform the installation.

    Thanks for the help! :)

The Amanda Enterprise Backup Server can also run natively on the ReadyNAS as well, to be an all in one backup solution.

I had asked how to do this, but didn't get any info, so again -

What distro should be targeted for the AMANDA download, and how can I get it installed?

Can I please get help for this?

    This place is just dead.
    :(

Can I please get help for this? Performance of the unit is way too slow backing up with AMANDA over an NFS share. If the AMANDA client was on our ReadyNAS 1100 it might be faster, but since my expertise is with RedHat & this distro is not user friendly (missing man pages, etc.) we need help getting the AMANDA Client running.
