Can’t log in to routerlogin.net for Trek N300 PR2000

Can’t log in to routerlogin.net for Trek N300 PR2000

Hi all!

I have a Netgear Trek N300 PR2000 that I’m trying to use as a range extender in my 240ish year old house. My main modem/router is a Motorola Surfboard 6782.

I’m trying to log in to the Trek because apparently both routers default to channel 1. I would much rather leave my main router on “auto” so it can select the best channel with the least interference since it handles the bulk of our traffic. The Trek is in the back of the house in the mud room to try to help some Lifx smart bulbs stay connected.

Anyway, I thought I was able to set up the Trek a couple weeks ago using my MacBook Pro, but when I’ve tried to log in to double check, I can’t get in to routerlogin.net. I’m connected to the Trek’s network, but it just brings up the Netgear website and asks me to try the Nighthawk app. I can’t even get in using the Genie app on my Mac or my iPhone even using the IP address I found in network settings on my computer.

I know this is an old model, and it’s past time to upgrade to a whole home wifi system, but money is tight with the pandemic. Advice?

Did you log into your primary router and find the IP address the primary router assigned to the trek?

I did log in to my main router, but it's not showing the Trek as one of the devices connected to it.  I have the MAC address for the Trek, and it's not listed.  I did press the reset button on the Trek, so it's possible it got disconnected from Extender Mode for my main router.  But now I can't log into it to set it back up.  Ideas?

Edit: Wait, found it!  I was able to use Netgear Genie on my MacBook to find the IP.  Updating firmware on the Trek and going from there.
