I remotely rebooted my R6800 and now it wont turn back on.

Hi,

So first thing first I don't have access directly to my router, need to clarify that right off the bat.

I was remote desktop-ed into a desktop I use as a server at home, from my work, I was trying to port forward but I was having issues, one solution to this that has worked in the past was to reboot my router (because turning it off and on again always fixes it).

So I used my Remote Desktop Connection to reboot the router, because I haven't set up the ability to access the web app for the router from outside my network yet, and I rebooted the Router.

It's been Several hours now, I'm still at work and after retrying Remote Desktop, and pining my usual IP, I can't get a connection.

I'll be home within the next 4-5 ish hours, but I wanted to see if it was possible to get it back up now, as a few people wanted to use my server.

Many thanks,

Hashbrown

This is why people use dynamic DNS.  Visit http://netgear.com/support
, put in your model number, and look for Documentation.  Get the User
Manual.  Look for "Manage Dynamic DNS".

Hi All,

So It occurred to me that the issue probably isn't with my router (or at least I hope it isn't) but it's likely that my public IP changed when my router went off, as my external IP is not static.

Hoping that this is the case, but won't be able to confirm for certain until I get out of office.

Regards,

Thanks, @antinode,

I did originally intend to set this up when I first got the router 3-4 months ago, but I didn't have a need for it until literally days ago, shame I didn't do it then.

Ah well, once I get home I'll update my current DNS redirect with my new IP then I'll figure out how Dynamic DNS works.

Thanks for the help,
