I've been told by my isp that they push out firmware updates to their customers. Will the Netgear offering cause our isp connection to fail if the firmware does not match our isp's specs? Or is this just for the modems their customers use? Will the firmware update offering for our router not interfere with this?
I currently have the AC1750 Smart WiFi Router, model R6400
I am using Windows 10 on my pc 64 bit.
I received the following email:
Our records indicate that you own the following product: R6400. NETGEAR is aware of one or more security vulnerabilities affecting your NETGEAR product. NETGEAR has released firmware fixes for one or more vulnerabilities affecting your R6400.
What You Can Do:
NETGEAR recommends that you download and install the latest firmware for your affected product.
To download the latest firmware for your product:
- Visit netgear.com/support.

- Under Current Versions, select the download whose title begins with Firmware Version.
- If you see a Release Notes link, click it.
- If you do not see a Release Notes link, click Download.
- Follow the instructions in the release notes to download and install the new firmware.
- If you do not see any release notes or if the release notes do not have installation instructions, follow the firmware upgrade instructions in your product's user manual, which is available under User Guides and Documentation.
Note: If your product does not have a user manual, look for a software administration manual, reference manual, or configuration utility user guide. - (Optional) To view the security advisories for all vulnerabilities that affect your product, return to your product's support page and click Security.

Hi @Friedbones,
Firmware updates pushed out by your ISP is usually for the device/s (modem/modem-router) that they provide. The firmware update for your NETGEAR router should not affect your connection. We recommend proceeding with the update. The links below may help out.

Re: Important Security Update from NETGEAR: New Firmware Is Available for Your Product
I have a question about the Netgear firmware update. Will this completely reset all my settings as well as my login ID and PW? Will I have to completely redo my setup?
It was such a pain to set it up when I first bought it...took me over 2 hours to do because I kept getting a "set pw" notice every time I set a password. I finally just left it with the final one I created and closed everything down....but the only way I knew things actually worked was when I closed out everything and restarted. Then I rebooted my pc and was able to get online.
The setup process for Netgear is extremely difficult and frustrating, you would think they could have made it easier for users to work with.

Re: Important Security Update from NETGEAR: New Firmware Is Available for Your Product
This has been a frustrating and useless exercise. Netgear's system keeps asking me to "To view this page, you must log in to www.routerlogin.net.:80.: but the login won’t accept my netgear passwords. I update my passwords and it still won’t accept them.

Re: Important Security Update from NETGEAR: New Firmware Is Available for Your Product
I see where someone else has been experiencing the exact same problem I have trying to update the Netgear Firmware. It would be nice to have a Netgear IT specialist get involved to help us fix this problem. When passwords are not accepted even after resetting....Netgear has a problem.
Because of this issue, you can bet I will NOT purchase any more Netgear products....and I shall happily advertise such to everyone who I speak with regarding the Netgear product failures.
