Using 2nd AC1000 in AP Configuration

I just purchased a 2nd AC1000 router and will use it in AP mode. I have not received it yet.

I think I want to make the first unit ethernet only.  Is there a way to disable the wireless on the first router so that it is just ethernet, or is that a bad idea?

Once the AP is installed, how does my PC know which router it is talking to when I am setting up the security?

Maybe, once I have the unit installed, it will all be obvious...

Thanks

Bob

"AC1000" speed, not a model number.  Look at the product label.
"R6080"?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for
"Enable or Disable the WiFi Radios".  Further reading might be
helpful, too.  For example, look for "Use the Router as a WiFi Access
Point Only".

It's ok with me.  I don't know why you're doing any of this.

If you give each radio its own unique SSID, then that name will make
it obvious.  If you use the same SSID on different radios, then the
client device might need to make the choice.

Re: Using 2nd AC1000 in AP Configuration

I set up the 2nd router in the living room and set it to AP mode as descibed in the original post.  I disabled the radio on the router (in the bedroom closet) and evrything works great!   The reason that I did this is that our house is pre-wired and all cables span from the bedroom, which is on the opposite side of the house from the offices and entertainment areas.  The wifi signal from the bedroom closet was weak at the offices and entertainment area.  Now the access point is in the middle of the needed wifi reception area.  Disabling the router in the bedroom minimizes the RF that our bodies absorb at night.

I hope that this helps others.

Bob
