VLAN configuration - GS728TP

I have three Netgear GS728TP PoE smart switches, linked in a chain by fibre optic cables as they are in different locations around the site, more than 100 metres apart. In switch1 I have a VLAN-aware DSL router which is used by my corporate network for internet access. Switch 1 links to switch2 and switch2 then links to switch3. In switch3 I want to connect a PC to be used by a visitor. The visitor requires internet access only and I want to be sure that he cannot access our corporate network.

I want to setup a VLAN for this one PC so that it can obtain an IP address from the router on switch 1 and access the internet only.

Can anyone advise me on the best way to do this?

Thanks

David

Re: VLAN configuration - GS728TP

Hi DaneA

Thanks for the link, that answered a lot of questions for me. My setup is slightly more complicated than the example, with three switches involved, with the PC being connected to switch 3 and the router connected to switch 1. Are there any further things that I need to consider with having three switches?  I notice that under the section heading "To assign the ports and set the port VLAN IDs:", point 3 the screenshot shows port 1 has been tagged. Do I need to tag any ports on any of the three switches?

Thanks

Re: VLAN configuration - GS728TP

@infologicit,

The ports connecting the switches should be set as tagged ports because its a trunk link.  For example: port 5 of Switch 1 is connected to port 5 of Switch 2.  Then, port 6 of Switch 2 is connected to port 6 of Switch 3.  Port 5 of both Switch 1 and Switch 2 should be set as tagged port with a PVID of 1 and should be a member of all VLANs.  The same goes with port 6 of both Switch 2 and Switch 3 should also be set as tagged port with a PVID of 1 and should be a member of all VLANs.

 Kindly refer to the article below:
