Netgear Stora and Apple Mac Time Machine OSX 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion) - autosetup works
Netgear Stora and Apple Mac Time Machine OSX 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion) - the autosetup works (2013 Jan)
I have read a number of posts about difficulties using Netgear Stora and Time Machine (with very complicated set ups). I set up Time Machine on the new OSX 10.8.2 in about 5 minutes using following set up (not sure if Stora or Apple settings have changed). You will need to enable computers backup
As noted in other posts, the main thing to remember is the new user name:
Netgear Stora Time Machine OSX Set up - 2013 Jan
- Open Time Machine (under System Preferences or from top menu if "show in top menu" option selected)
- Select add or remove backup disk
- select "Stora Time Machine" on "Stora"
- A Name and Password Box will pop up, replace your normal admin user name or computer name with the following user name:
Name: computersbackup
Password: [Normal Password]
- time machine should add stora as a time machine backup and then start the backup
When I used my normal username and password I got the following error:
"Time Machine can’t access the backup disk “Stora TimeMachine”.
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 2.)"
When I replaced my normal username with "computersbackup" set up and backup worked perfectly.
Please note, for time backup to work you will need to make sure that you have enabled Computers Backup under the Stora Preferences. You will need to select a password. To access preferences go to www.mystora.com
Stora Preferences - Computers Backup
To enable this feature, you must select a password. You will need this password when you configure Windows Backup and Time Machine on your computer. For security reasons this password should be different than your current user account.

Re: Netgear Stora & Time Machine Settings - un backup & restore
Further to my post below, in Jan 2013 I completed a full backup and transfer of data from my MacBook Pro 15" (2012) to my Netgear Stora Apple Mac Time Machine OSX 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion) and then restored / transfered the data to my new iMac (2012).
As noted below, you will need to enable the Computers Backup in the Stora Preferences, select password then use the following UN (& PW) to backup and restore from time Apple Time Machine
UN: computersbackup
PW: [selected password]
Cheers

Re: Netgear Stora and Time Machine OSX 10.8.2 - Backup location
One last tip, if you can not delete the time machine backup on the stora (thoruhg Time Machine) you may need the following info.
For example after my backup and restore I wanted to deleted the 200GB backup file (which I could not do from the new computer or from Time Machine on my old mac)
To manually access / delete your timemachine backup files on Stora
The timemachine backup is stored on a hidden directory on Stora2 (not Stora). You can access this by logging on to Stora2 using the "computersbackup" user name
To access Stora Time Machine files:
- The timemachine backup is stored on Stora2 (not Stora)
- The address is: //stora2/computersbackup$
- if you are using a mac:
i) Go to finder
ii) Choose "connect to server"
iii) Enter "smb://stora2/computersbackup$" (without quotes)
UN: computersbackup
PW; [Std Backup Password, you set this in the Stora Preferences Page)
Finder will open "computersbackup" stora disk (which is hidden by default). You can then access / delete the ".sparsebundle" time machie file with your computer name eg MRC_Mac.sparsebundle
Other useful server addresses are:
smb://stora/FamilyLibrary/
smb://stora/MyComputers/
smb://stora/mylibrary/
For PC remove the "smb:".

Re: Netgear Stora and Apple Mac Time Machine OSX 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion) - autosetup w
Have been wrestling with the stora set up for over an hour now...for some reason i cant get the thing to show up as an option within the time machine "select drive" set up.
The stora is correctly mounted in the finder (i can see it there and access the folders), i've also enabled the computer backups in the Stora preferences.....any clues what im missing?

Time Machine is best way to take backup of OS X on Mac - offline way
But Apple's Mac also giving option as a alternative like iCloud - Online, Time capsule, CDs and DVDs and Burning Disk option.
you can find in details: Best Alternate Mac OS X back up ways: Mac
Thanks to apple,:)

It's the same for me. I' ve just done the first backup, but not completed because i stopped it.
Now tryed to restart time macchine but stora is not listed in the usable hdd in time machine even if i mounted Stora2 correctly.
I can see the ComputersBackup correctly , with the incomplete backup .sparsebundle, but time machine doesn't show me Stora2 as a selectable hdd.
On stora preferences ComputersBackup is enabled with a different password to the normal administrator user.
Help,please!
