WNDA3100 v2 Can't find my network

I've used a  WNA1100 on a XP computer for about a year and it tends to lose the network connection after a while and I have to reconnect it. I'm primarily using remote Desktop on the XP computer to connect to a Win 10 computer.

I recently got a WNDA3100 v2 adapter and thought it may be more reliable. I uninstalled the WNA1100 and then installed the WNDA3100 v2 using the Genie setup - WNDA3100_SW_V2.2.0.5_Setup_Genie.zip.

I can see my ATT U-verse modem, but it won't connect to it with either the manual method of inputting the password or the button approach where I hold the button on the adapter.

Actually this adapter was given to me by a tech from Dish network who installed some new equip at my home and said we didn't need the adapter anymore and I could use it for whatever I wanted.

The adapter does have DISH printed on it, so maybe it's a special adapter that will only work with DISH, although one would think that they just used different software to do what they wanted.

So is it possible for me to use this adapter with my XP computer?

Hi @GerryPeters

Welcome to NETGEAR Community!

If the adapter detects the network then the adapter works fine. How do you connect to the network? Is it via NETGEAR Utility or Windows Utility? You can try to install the standalone driver.

Re: WNDA3100 v2 Can't find my network

The adapter does detect the network. For some reason the password wasn't working to manually input it or by using the button to send to my modem

I think I was using the Netgear Genie to connect to the network? But it seemed a window did pop up that I think was the Windows Utility and that didn't work either.

The standalone driver was the first thing I installed and got nowhere with it, I thought may because I didn't first uninstall the WNA1100. But maybe I just didn't know how to use the standalone driver. I checked out the readme file and that didn't help.

What is the difference between the standalone driver and the Genie? How do I use the standalone driver correctly. Why would I use one instead of the other?

This post has given me hope that maybe I can solve this. I'll try somethings on Monday and get back to you. If you can enlighten me some with my questions above that may make Monday more fruitful

Thanks,

Re: WNDA3100 v2 Can't find my network

I tried some things today. An XP window popped up with this:

Wireless network connection
choose a wireless network
mine does show up at top
enter password
long wait - no window of the result
in list my network is at top and it says automatic with a gold star icon, showing full signal strength - but it's not connected

Click on Netgear icon in sys tray and open Genie
my network is not in the list
choose Push N connect option, press both buttons

error message
Network Genie - failed to join wireless network ATT2xxxxx
it correctly lists my network name
Yet in the Genie window it's not there even after Refresh

select different button in Genie - Home, Other, manually connect to a network
now it shows my network
choose connect, a password screen pops up - hit ok, it don't connect
now my network is not showing in the Genie window even after Refresh

What's the difference between Standalone and Genie?

Any suggestions?

Re: WNDA3100 v2 Can't find my network

Hi @GerryPeters

Please check this WNDA3100v2 Product FAQs

"What operating system patch or service pack do I need to install in my XP machine to ensure my wireless function works without an error?"

This could be the reason why the adapter is not working properly.

Re: WNDA3100 v2 Can't find my network

I have XP service pack 3 and all that's required is service pack 2. I did get WNA1100 to work, but it loses the network too often and I was hoping the WNDA3100 would work better.

Did you see my message 4? I filled in a lot of details few you in hopes this would give you more to work with. Please review it. What's the difference between Standalone and Genie?

Let me know what to try next

thanks,
