GS305 No Green Light from Cat5e connected to router

I'm struggling for a solution to this.

I have a GS305 upstairs to provide connections to a few devices I want wired. I have a cat5e ethernet cable running up through the wall. I have confirmed that this cable is still in good condition (only installed maybe 6 months ago) and is able to provide a wired connection to my laptop if I connect directly to it.

If I plug it into the GS305, to act as the link between the GS305 and my router, I get nothing. No green light on the port (except for a brief flash if the router has restarted) and no connection to a device using connected via one of the other ports.

I've tried no shortage of different cables at all points, and I've tried all the ports on the switch so far to no avail. I get confirmed link green lights on the connections that run from the switch to my device but no connection.

I'm a bit stuck.

bring the switch down by the router and direct connect it with a 6ft cable. I've seen some laptops be less critical of a sketchy connection than switches.

so its worth checking that even if the cable works on a laptop
