Can't rename files/folders RN312

I have a client with a ReadyNAS 312 with 2 x 2TB HDD's running OS 6.2.4. They are accessing the RN via Windows Explorer from systems all running Windows 7 Pro x64 with all current patches & service packs. The only protocol turned on for this share is SMB.

Occasionally (not all the time) when they go to rename a file or folder the system either; a) does not allow the rename to occur, or b) LOOKS like the rename worked but a quick refresh of the directory shows it in fact did not.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas? I'm stumped.

I sometimes see folder renames (or deletes) fail on my various NAS - usually with an error that a file is open in another process.  My workaround is to browse to https://nasip/shares and delete (or rename) the folder via http.  Alternatively, wait a while and try again.

Not great workarounds, and it is annoying when it happens.

FWIW, I think thumbs.db is the culprit   You can prevent thumbs.db from being read/writen though a windows policy setting (user configuration\administrative templates\windows components\windows explorer\turn off the caching of thumbnails in hidden .thumbs.db files

Thanks for the input. I'll give that a try. I hate to modify that policy as it affects everything everywhere. I'd feel better if I could isolate that to just the network drives.

I'll let you know what happens ...

Which is why I just live with it.

Okay, so I turned on HTTP access to the Shares in question. And I can now open them up in a web browser. Two questions; First, what do I do about WebDAV? On or Off?; Second, I don't see a way to "rename" the folders in my browser (which is Chrome 45.0.2454.93 m).

      Thoughts? Opinions?

      TIA

With OS 4 you can rename/delete from via https://nasname/sharename.

With OS 6, I think you need to use admin UI to do that.  Enabling WebDav in Chrome has no effect.
