Cannot access admin page...ReadyNAS "Admin Page" is offline

Hello,

I need some help. I cannot access the admin page -> Netgear ReadyNAS 314 (RNC31400) running FW 6.10.2.  Every time I try to access the administration page I get prompted for the user ID and password. I enter the correct information and then the browser displays "Connecting to the ReadyNAS Admin Page...." and after about 45-50 secs I get the message "ReadyNAS Admin Page is offline".

I have searched Google for solutions to this problem (including this forum) and I have gone thru many of the solutions posted here:

  • Cleared cache and tried again
  • Tried Chrome, Firefox, Edge and IE
  • SSH is disabled so can't access it that way
  • Pressed the power button 3 times to power down unit. Waited few minutes and restarted unit. Once booted I waited 10-15 min and tried to access via web browser.
  • Tried access directly https://ip_address/ (got Connecting to the ReadyNAS Admin Page....)
  • Tried access https://ip_address/admin (got 423 Locked The requested resource is currently locked. The lock must be released or proper identification given before the method can be applied.
  • Tried access https://ip_address/fwbroker (got 423 Locked The requested resource is currently locked. The lock must be released or proper identification given before the method can be applied.
  • Tried connecting via Netgear's ReadyCloud service: http://readycloud.netgear.com/client/index.html#page=discoverdevices. (got Connecting to the ReadyNAS Admin Page....)

The ReadyNAS is currently working and serving the shares. I can access the shares via the network and access all the files. The problem is that I cannot access the administration page. I normally do backups from the administration page so I cannot do any more backups.

Could this problem have been caused by a bad Hotfix push from Netgear? The ReadyNAS has been running FW 6.10.2 since October 2019 without any trouble. I last accessed the system mid December 2019 so something has happened since then.

Any suggestions to overcome this problem? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jose

Re: Cannot access admin page...ReadyNAS "Admin Page" is offline

Yes, login in as admin.  I did try to use RAIDar but without any luck.  I considered an OS reinstall from the boot menu but I wanted to leave that option last until I tried everything else.

Yesterday I got distracted with other projects and I left the browser window open where the system displayed "ReadyNAS Admin Page is offline" along with some suggestions.   I left the browser window open for about 7 hours.   When I came back to it I reloaded the screen and it prompted me to login back again.   I figure I would try again before turning off the computer.  This time it took the credentials and successfully logged me in.  Now it works normally again.  I don't know what the problem is/was since I had tried to clear the browser cache (all browsers) many times, I rebooted the ReadyNAS several times too.  The only thing I can think of is that maybe it was a routing issue since the ReadyNAS is connected directly to my router and I was connecting to it from a wireless access point.  The ReadyNAS has a static IP address but perhaps the wireless access point had a glitch.

So far I have been able to log back into the ReadyNAS several times so it seems all is working again.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Jose

You are logging in as admin?

Have you tried downloading the log zip file using RAIDar?  https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads#raidar

One option is to try doing an OS reinstall from the boot menu, using the instructions on pages 74-75 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/ReadyNAS_%20OS6_Desktop_HM_EN.pdf

That will

  • reset the admin password to password
  • reset the network configuration (DHCP, no bonding)
  • disable volume quota (can be turned on again from the settings wheel on the volume page).

But it would be best to check the log zip file first - in particular, it would be helpful to know if the system's root partition is full.  You can see this in volume.log.  Scroll down to the === df -h === section, and look at /dev/md0 - which is the OS partition of the NAS.  Normally it is about 25% full.

Re: Cannot access admin page...ReadyNAS "Admin Page" is offline

It sounds like something on your network is repeatedly attempting to log in with a cached wrong password, locking you out.  It could be the same computer you are using.  Are you using some kind of password management software that works across the multiple browsers?

Re: Cannot access admin page...ReadyNAS "Admin Page" is offline

No password management software.  I was trying to login typing the admin account and correct password each time.  I used Chrome, Firefox, Edge and IE.  I tried one browser at the time and cleared the cache every time after waiting a reasonable amount of time to account for timeouts after each attempt.

It works now.  Please see my reply to the previous suggestion.

Thanks,

Jose
