Cannot set up Alerts on my ReadyNAS RN314
Email issues: What are the settings for Yahoo and Gmail for alerts? I am using my correct username/password from each, and an SMTP Server of smtp.att.yahoo.com/smtp.gmail.com, and both use Port 587. My MAC Mail says to use SSL, but when I check the TLS box in the ReadyNAS configuration, I get error code 500801000 when sending a test message; when I leave it unchecked I get 500801001. When I set it up for my BellSouth account, using mail.bellsouth.net on Port 25, no TLS, I do not get an error code, just a message that says "Unable to send a test message".
I also notice that the Configuration Dropdown box only contains Custom, while the NV+ has a few settings: Gmail, AOL; while nothing seem to actually do anything.
BTW: I used to be able to send alerts and test messages from my NV+, but now, although it says it is sending (from my BellSouth account), it does not get through

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHave you checked your DNS settings?
- PWS442GuideMy DNS setting is what it is supposed to be: 192.168.1.254, my Uverse Gateway/Router. Been having network challenges at home lately. Some things jump to 169.254.xxx.xxx. Cycled Power on my AirPort Time Capsule, and it cleared up. Very strange! Perhaps that is what is wrong with the NV+ alerts, as it seems my Alerts SMTP is set up fine.
Thanks a lot for your help, sincerely. - PWS442GuideMDGM: you have my logs from another of my posts. Is there anything in there you can glean as to why I am failing miserably?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredOn your Mac, open the systemd-journal.log. It should open in the console. Then up the top you can filter the log for "msmtp" (no quotes). You could also look at entries around the ones that show up when you filter the log.
This should give some clues.
Do you have two-factor authentication setup for gmail? If so, you will need to setup an application specific password. - PWS442GuideThank you. Google says I am using the wrong username/password. Hard to believe. I get that for the bell south as well. I will check more closely later. I am also getting "authentication failed" and/or "server does not support authentication".
Will do more digging tonight and over the weekend. Thanks. (I do not have two-factor authentication set up.) I think a lot of the SSL/TLS issues I have read about lately may play into this as well. - PWS442GuideStill having problems. Trying so many different combinations. One thing I notice that I cannot do is change the Email Account Provider. The only choice is Custom. Most documentation has a list of choices.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI only see custom as a choice too. Sounds like the documentation you are looking at is out of date or for an older device.
- PWS442GuideMy bet would be out of date. The logs are not showing me any consistency either. My NV+ is not doing alerts these days either (although it does have some custom settings. May I ask what is the current version for the NV+? When I click the Check Update button, I do not get anything back. Just the ability to click it again. (I am set to auto-notification, but I think I got a message a few days ago when I was busy doing other things, and ignored it.)
Thanks for all your help. (BTW: I can now read/write to the 314 USB HDD from every box) - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe NV+ (v1) runs 4.1.x (and earlier) and the latest firmware is 4.1.14
The NV+ v2 runs 5.3.x and the latest firmware is 5.3.11
Both are mentioned in the Global Announcements for the ReadyNAS forums.
Sounds like you have a network settings issue somewhere. Is the DNS, Gateway etc. set correctly? - PWS442GuideI believe they are. They match what I have above, which is on my Mac/PCs/iDevices best I know. I think funny SSL/TLS/Certificate games are going on now.
I will check further into the DNS/Gateway settings as best I can Sunday PM.
