FTP Share mounting problems

Hi.

I have three ReadyNASes and one of them is currently misbehaving.

Everything started early December when I upgraded Squeeze Center Server to a new version (the first version called Logitech Media Server). Suddenly the contents of the media share was not what I expected. Instead of the orinary directories I was shown directories that where more UNIX-like. In the ReadyNAS logg I found an error message saying "Unsuccessful mounting ftp share media".

I thought that this might have something to do with the Logitech software so I installed a newer build but that did not help. I then renamed the share to media2 but still got the same error message but to my suprise the share came mounted OK when I renamed it back to media again.

Now, everything has been OK since but when I bought a second Ultra 2 and started to test Reolicate, I rebooted the NAS and the media share was once again lost. I googled some and found some references to other people having the same problem and the installing the latest RAIDiator version had fixed the problem. So I installed RAIDiator 4.2.20-T31.

Upon reboot the media share is still not mounted but the error message is no longer displayed in the log and a new share called squeezeboxserver has appeared in the list of shares. This has to be a share created by the Logitech software since I have not created it. Could there be some kind of conflict between these two shares? Is it safe to delete the squeezeboxserver share if I am sure that my files that I really cannot loose are located in the media share? Do you have any other ideas?

Kind regards,

Rename the media share (don't forget to click apply) and then rename it back again. On 4.2.20 beta the issue will not reoccur.

The latest nightly build of squeezecenter works fine on RAIDiator 4.2.19
  • Hi.

I just tried renaming to media2 and the share mounted correctly, but when i changed the name back I did not mount. I am using the RAIDiator 4.2.20-T31 that I think is what you refere as the beta, right? Anyway, I still have this problem. Do you think that it might have to to do with the extra share?

    Kind regrads,
    /Mats Rahm

I don't think that share should be a problem for FTP. The issues people have been having have been with CIFS not FTP, I think. Sounds like something in your config may have got messed up.
  • Same issue here (cif related ) i havent tested the ftp side .... but my Media share redirects to /c/Webroot and everything edited and changed in the media share is done so on webroot ....

yet there is a /c/media folder which still houses my original content ..... like a ghost/phantom share that is not recognized or setup correctly .... almost tempted to make a webroot share n see wat happens ....

but it is persistant for me aswell , if i rename to "media1" all is well but rename back to "media" the change dose not take affect , the whole thing is very weird .........
  • Forgot to mention : Copyright © 1996-2011 NETGEAR ® | RAIDiator 4.2.19

another side note ... even when i rename the share to media 1 .... the media share stays available even after a reboot ... even thoe technically the "media" share no longer exist .... i dono how this happend but its confusing

Ok WOW im still kind of confused as to how i did this so ill try to explain (Prob solved).

1)I got the idea ... rename my share to (media1) Which makes the folders /c/media1

All worked fine share (media1) has my content in it ..... /c/media did not get deleted tho

    2) Make a new share named (media) the folder i want back lol which oldy created the folder /c/Media (deleting /c/media oddly)

all went fine but media i could not access for some strange reason

3 ) deleted empty share (media) associated to folder /c/Media

    all worked .. folder gone

    4) Now i can rename (media1) to (media) giving me my original setup ...

Share name :Media associated with /c/Media all my content in tact

a scary toss and turn but worked fine .... for some reason the process of renaming the folder would not delete the associated path .... which is y when renamed back u get the same setup u were trying to fix .... the only thing that deleted the path was creating a share of the same name (usually not possible ) but thankfully the firmware/gui thinks it dosent exist so it lets u .

Contact NetGear tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support). Edit the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in the thread) to include your case number. They should be able to remotely login to your unit and fix the problem.
  • This exact thing just happened to me. I was transferring some files off of my camcorder overnight to the NAS. I woke up this morning and the file transfer stopped and there was no data in my media folder. I changed nothing on the NAS (Readynas Pioneer Pro), all I was doing was transferring files.

Thanks to this thread I was able to fix it. I just renamed media to media1 and all my data was in media1. I am leaving for vacation tomorrow so I don't have time to fix it right now, but I am glad I can see my data again.

    Thanks again!
