As for resyncing when you vertically expand a volume (replace with higher capacity disks) you'll have a resync to rebuild things back to how they were then another resync to create the additional space needed for the expansion on another layer.
I appreciate the feedback mdgm-ntgr and as always it makes sense. Funny thing is I expanded the volume on my 626X first with 2x8TB drives and didn't pay attention to the rsync process on it but I'm sure the logs reflect the same 2x rsync process. Unfortunately expanding from 2x2TB in slots 3 & 4 to 2x4TB in slots 3 & 4 brought me from 15% unused volume to 33% unused volume. In short, I'll likely need to remove the 3TB drives in slots 1 & 2 and replace them with 4TB drives or live with the constant alerts about the volume being below 30% for a while. :smileylol:

Since I really would like to avoid rebooting, is there another way to get the GUI back?
EDIT: root is only 52%
EDIT2: my backup button is blinking
