HDD's won't spin down [SOLVED]

Hello good people, me noob here again. I have a feeling that HDD's on my ReadyNAS Duo V2 spinning all of the time. I have enabled option to spiw-down disks after 20 minutes of inactivity but apparently this setting doesn't work. The only services i have enabled are SMB and HTTPS, and the only add-on - TransmissionBT. I have tried to unplug Ethernet cable from NAS to make sure no PC's using it, also i tried to disable TransmissionBT add-on and disks with no luck.
Is there any way to find out what's causing it? I have enabled root SSH if that helps. Thank you in advance.

By the way, this would be my last issue with Duo V2 for now :)

  • Samsung HD642JJ can be easily added to "unsupported disk drives" list. Disks did not spin down even after factory reset. After adding Samsung HD204UI disk spin-down option works with no problems at all.
  • Thank you for letting us know about what you found. While there is no official list of unsupported drives, I will definitely add this to my personal list.

It would be quite helpful if there was a community list of drives known not to work. People do choose to go outside the HCL for a variety of reasons, and knowing what to avoid would be nice.
  • Perhaps one of mods could create a sticky, so people can report issues they have and hard drive models? That could be really useful for people like myself :)

Just stick to the compatibility list. Remember that NetGear will deny support if you choose drives outside the list.

You see, i had two HDD's from my previous NAS which broke down so i wanted to give them a try first before i buy new ones. Nothing to loose anyways :)
  • When support is denied for HDD incompatibility, it is generally because the drives are the cause of the failure. If you are using drives that aren't on the HCL and for example the chassis fails, support would still be provided. The only real worry is that diagnostic some times requires getting a drive that is supported.

    Good to know, thank you!
