RNDP6310 stuck in "BOOT MENU"
Hi,
I've just had a user bring an RNDP6310 to me not-working. His response to my suggestion "That's OK. Just flatten it and restore the data from your backup" was the predictable "I don't have a backup" despite this not being the first time he's lost large quantities of irreplaceable video footage in this way and his protestations that I must get the data back because it's so important. :slap:
The unit powers up says "ReadyNAS" on the front panel then displays a small dot for a fraction of a second then "BOOT MENU" (The reset button isn't held in.) Pressing the backup button doesn't change the display (it stays at "BOOT MENU" rather than cycling through the options.) Powering it on with the reset button held in doesn't change the behaviour.
I've opened it up, checked all the internal cables seem to be firmly connected and reseated the RAM but there's no difference.
Has anyone seen this behaviour before please and do you have any recommendations on what I should do next?
Thanks,
Paul.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCould be a problem with the reset button I guess. It could be stuck in.
- PapfoxAspirantThanks, I conducted some more tests and found the following:
I swapped the RAM between the slots and tried each of the sticks on its own in one slot. No improvement.
I removed the daughter board containing the network ports and the reset button. The unit failed to boot without the board but the symptom was different (It got stuck on "ReadyNAS" and not on "BOOT MENU")
I measured across the reset button pins and it measured 94 ohms open and 0 ohms closed. 94 seems quite low but I don't know what other components are across the circuit.
I'm building a console cable now to see if there's any meaningful output when it gets stuck. - PapfoxAspirantThe boot output on the console is as follows but I'm seeing some variation in which drives are detected.
