SNMP settings?

I'm having trouble connecting my ReadyNAS 4200 to my SNMP server. Here's what I've done so far:
1) I loaded the official ReadyNas SNMP MIB into my program (Paessler PRTG)
2) I set the community string to "public" on both sides
3) I have tested in both SNMP v1 and v2c modes.

What's confusing to me is that each time I get the message "Unable to connect: check host, port, and community string and try again." There's got to be something I've missed; I can only recheck these three things so many times.

  • Woops, just realized I hadn't updated this. I did in fact find the problem - there was a hard-to-find IP filter in between the ReadyNAS and the SNMP monitor. Removed the filter; all is good.

In case anyone wonders: the ReadyNas SNMP MIB is fantastic. It shows almost everything I could care about: disks, fans, status, temperature, volume storage space, etc.
Here's the link to download the ReadyNAS MIB:

I use Paessler PRTG; to import this file, here's how you do it:
    1) Get Paessler MIB Importer v2 (a free download, http://www.paessler.com/tools/mibimporter)
    2) Download the ReadyNAS MIB file (search for SNMP on the ReadyNAS site, http://www.readynas.com/?cat=41)
    3) Launch MIB importer and select "Import | MIB File"
    4) Select the MIB file and click "Open". If all is well, it will think for a minute and then say "import successful".
    5) Click File | Save and save the file as "ReadyNAS.oidlib".
    6) Copy the oidlib file to your PRTG server in the folder C:\Program Files\PRTG Network Monitor\snmplibs
    7) Go to your PRTG user interface and right click on the ReadyNAS device. Select "Add Sensor".
8 ) In the sensor select screen, choose "SNMP".
    9) Click "SNMP Library" and select "readynas.oidlib". If the file doesn't show up yet, close and re-open your PRTG user interface and it will re-scan the folder and find your oidlib file.
    10) Click next and select all the monitors you care about.

Only one wish: I'd really like to be able to monitor SMART+ error counts on hard drives, but that doesn't seem to be in the current SNMP MIB.
