Stuck on ReadyNas Screen on boot up

Hello,

My ReadyNas Pro is stuck while booting up. I've tried everything, including the paper-clip-hold-and-restart trick but the system just hangs on the ReadyNAS OLED screen and goes no further. The fans are on full, but there seems to be no other activity. I've unplugged, taken out all the harddrives (x6), inserted one-by-one, rebooting each time but nothing.

Help!

Arnold

Can you get to the boot menu at all?

If not, check the memory seating next. I think I've seen that symptom when the memory wasn't all the way in the slot.
  • Also, which readynas pro model do you have?
    When did you buy it?
    What firmware are you on?
  • That's right - can't even get into the boot menu.

How do I check the memory slot? Would be strange that this should suddenly happen... Just suddenly happened while working - NAS rebooted on its own and has been stuck there ever since.
  • By the way, I have the most recent firmware. I am using the Business Pro edition. Bought it in 2009.

It could be that the memory actually failed. (Or some other hardware component that prevents bootup from starting).

If you purchased a business unit new in 2009, you should still be under warranty (which is 5 years for business models). In that case, use support.netgear.com - you likely will need an RMA.
  • Ok. I'll give the support line a try. If I need an RMA, do I need to send it the whole NAS with HDDs?
Also, I am living in the Netherlands - so I don't know how that will work in terms of servicing.

Thanks for your help by the way. Appreciate the quick responses. Makes it feel less like "talking into the void..."

  • Support will need to do some diagnostic work with you, but if they decide its a chassis problem you won't have to send the disks in.
The best way to do it will be to request an advance RMA ( you will get a chassis sent you then you have fixed period of time to arrange return of the faulty unit - the return courier cost is covered by Netgear)). This costs a little but means you can migrate your disks and test the new unit.
  • Oddly enough, the exact same thing is happening to my ReadyNAS Pro 6.
My original one started making the annoying licking noise on the CPU fan. I RMAd it to Netgear and got another brand new Pro6.
Swapped all the HDDs across. Running fine.
Today it just rebooted for no good reason and now I'm stuck on READYNAS on the LED display with all fans going full pelt and nothing else happening.
    Latest firmware as well.
What gives? Amd I going to have to RMA the RMA unit? :P
