Waiting for encryption key
Hi,
our USB encryption key has stopped working, we have the email with attached .key file but when loading this onto a usb memory stick it is not accepted by the readynas.
The memory stick was reformatted on Win10 to Fat32 and also in the NAS itself, I dropped the .key file onto the stick. The readynas still says "waiting for encryption key". I also dropped the .key file which I saved from the mail months ago on a hdd on the usb stick and it also says "waiting for encryption key".
Any help greatfully achieved!
Another thing is the hdd migration from our Readynas 102 to the 104. Can I just swap the encrypted HDDs from the 102 to the 104 and put the keys from them on the USB stick for the 104. Will they boot?

You should be able to migrate both the disks and the associated key(s) to the RN104 - of course removing the RN104 disks and its keys.
Note I don't use volume encryption myself, so I can't help with the main problem.

I forgot to share the following information:
I named the HDDs in the RN102 c: and d:. So the encryption keys where named automatically by the system to C.key and D.key.
I named the new HHD in the RN104 C: and the encryption key where named automatically: C_.key
So I copied the C_.key to the USB stick from the RN 102 and tried to boot but nothing happened. Afterward i formated the USB stick and copied the C_.key from the mail/HDD to it but it didn't boot either. I also restarted the NAS a couple of times with the USB stick in it.
What I also tried was to rename the C_.key file to C.key or C .key and so on because I hoped it just couldnt find the assignment of a name to the encrypted HDD in the RN 104.

You can't use the key for one volume with another, even if they are named the same, so that won't work unless you also move the drives. I don't use encryption, but it is a bit odd to me that the keys were named differently. It may have something to do with the OS version. So, have you tried re-naming C.key to C_.key and trying that in the appropriate NAS?
