copy DVD to readynas ultra 2 to watch
is it possible to copy my favourite dvds 7 compete series of the west wing to the ReadyNas Ultra 2 and have play them through my ps3 instead of having to put each individual dvd into the ps3 to play them.
basically i want to copy all episode to the nas for convenience they are region 2 (uk) DVD
i assume the dvd are somehow copyright protected so it may not be possible.
i see the qnas allows iso images to be mounted.

- its very possible, but not necessarily easy or simple.
But if your talking about simply copying dvd iso files to the nas and have them automagically played/converted to play on the ps3, then no its not.
to play on your ps3, you would need to rip and convert each dvd to a format that is compatible with what the ps3 can stream, like AVI or something (I don't know what formats the ps3 directly supports) that is compatible with both ps3 and readydlna.
You should probably start with google and learn how to rip and what format(s) you want to use that are compatible with both the ps3 and the readydlna server on the nas. - victorhortaliveAspirantHave a look at this website : http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dv ... 1-main.htm.
It has lots of info on media conversion with its own forum pages. - hwgAspirantthank you both.
I will go and look at the site and see what Mr Google can offer.
I am just looking for a convieneint (read lazy) way of playing my DVDs.
also it alows me to use the DVDs as a back up and stick them in the loft out of the way.
I really don't care what format they are in as long as it works.
but at the end of the day if its not possible then it's not big deal to have to walk over to the dvd and put a disc in, i guess.
the moden world is so hard, having to put my own discs in....
thanks again for the info - You might also consider something other than the ps3.
There are quite a few media player devices/programs which *CAN* read dvd iso files without having to convert anything. But the PS3 can not.
I use XBMC myself. But I think others use popcorn hour, wdtv live, netgear media streamers, etc.
various google results - victorhortaliveAspirantYou can certainly do what you seek, but it isn't free. The S/W you need is not free (some is but the crucial ones are not).
I use the Netgear NeoTV 550 as a media streamer with the source on a ProPioneer. All the video files are stored as .iso format.
