iPhone 4S as a streaming client
What is the best way of connecting an iPhone 4S to a ReadyNAS Pro 2 as a music streaming client?

- sphardy1Apprentice3 primary alternatives for direct NAS access (in my personal order of preference)
1. iSub app accessing Subsonic on your NAS (There's a Subsonic community addon available)
2. iPeng app accessing Squeezebox Server on your NAS
3. One of the many DLNA related apps accessing ReadyDLNA on your NAS
Else you always have this new-fangled iCloud thingy for $25 per year: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
Or stream via iTunes / Airplay with your media stored on your NAS, but requires you to have iTunes running somewhere - youngyAspirantApologies if I'm being a bit slow here but; can I stream music from my readynas duo (squeezecentre 7.6 installed) using my iPhone 3GS and without any other Squeezebox players so I can listen on my phone? I don't really want to spend the cash on iPeng if it's not going to work and from other posts I see that Subsonic won't work on a Duo.

Yes. Similarly you can install clients on any of your computers and do the same - youngyAspirantSphardy. Ok thanks for that - I appreciate the help.
- grimlochAspirantI know there's a DAAP app out there that will connect to the Firefly Server on the NAS. Should also be able to send the audio to an Airport Express from iphone 3GS, 4 and 4S.
- AVoelpTutorI've now settled for the 8player app. It uses DLNA, and it does just about everything that I need.
- What about Plex. It can stream video in addition to music.
There is a PlexMediaServer Add-On available for installation on the NAS. - youngyAspirantMy set-up seems a little flaky (iPeng and Duo). Touching any button on the iPhone (software or hardware) stops playback and quite often the sound will cut out but the track continues to play (according to the time progress in the iPeng). When this happens it's necessary to restart the track. The iTunes library is on the has and my files are in ALAC format which I've restricted to 320kbps playback. I'm streaming wirelessly from the Duo to my phone and then to an airport express so I came to the conclusion that it's probably my set-up that's the problem so I've gone back to streaming using the iTunes remote (with mac on of course) which works very well. I also can't get TuneIn Radio to work at all through iPeng (I have an account and it's set-up in my squeezebox.com). I wonder if anyone has any advice that might help with a mac-less set-up)?
- AVoelpTutor8player (probably like any other DLNA client) streams music, videos and pictures to my iPhone without without interruptions and without any discernible loss of video or audio quality (when the WLAN speed is good enough), and it does not require any additional software installation on the ReadyNAS. What else do you need?
- youngyAspirantThanks, yes I've tried 8player - I can't get album art to work and really don't like the interface but had planned to use it as a last resort. And I'm also thinking of getting a logitech Radio so would prefer one system of linking them all together and I'm also interested in trying to figure out how to get this set-up to work if possible. As I said above if I can't, then I'll probably use a DNLA client.
