MKV showing as MPEG via DLNA
Hi, I purchased the Netgear NV+V2 NAS, I have copied a few MKV's and M2TS files to test it works via my Sony BDP 490, now the MKV files wont play, interestingly these files show up as MPEG on the blu-ray player via dlna, which makes no sense since its a MKV File.
Anyone else had this issue? 5.3.5 is the firmware version, I downgraded it when the MKV's didn't play.
Edit: I've just put the same mkv's on a external hard drive and connected them upto the blu-ray player directly and its showing up as MKV and plays fine. The same files play fine from my cheap D link DNS320 NAS.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThe playback issue is almost certainly in readydlna. Do you know if the mkv uses header compression?
It shows up as mpeg because readydlna is exporting them as mpeg - so that in itself is not the problem. - ZaimAspirant

I have no idea sorry. Would this work ?

I'm now back on the latest firmware. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI am not sure if that will work, the thread is pretty old.
You could try remuxing the MKV with the current version of mvkmerge GUI. This is part of the mkvtoolnix package; there is a link here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVtoolnix
Go into options and check "disable header compression removal for audio and video tracks by default". - ZaimAspirant

Thanks, I'll give that a go, I have also emailed netgear about this. Hopefully they will sort it.
Edit: that didn't work, here's the settings I used:
set compression to none for the audio aswell. - Mark_the_RedAspirantHello All,
Over on AVSforums http://www.avsforum.com/t/1386151/official-2012-sony-bdp-s790-thread/2190 we were havving the same problems with minidlna and sony mkv file streaming.
Long story short: Here is the fix to the code needed http://www.bayofrum.net/~crees/patches/minidlna-fix-sony-bdp-sx90.diff
Thank the guys over here for it: https://sourceforge.net/projects/minidlna/forums/forum/879957/topic/5470549
Don't know who recompiles firmware with Netgear over here, but its a REALLY simple fix and will solve all your problems.
Hope this helps. Please note I am not a programmer or tech support but merely a frustrated end user spreading the good word.
I can confirm the patch works and mkv's stream natively to my Sony s790 bdp - ZaimAspirantThanks for that, I take it I need to inform netgear so they can make the change ?
- Mark_the_RedAspirantWell thats the tough part. Somebody has to edit the source code of your ReadyNAS and recompile it. Easier said than done I'll admit. However, for a Netgear employee or any programmer it should be a 5 minute job.

Cool, thanks mate, I've sent netgear another message with a link to this thread. Hopefully they can sort this out quickly. - sabahlAspirantI had exactly this issue with a Sony BDP-S790. After first raising the problem on the avsforums I saw Mark The red had managed to get the fix with miniDLNA to work on his system so tried recompiling the binaries for my NV+. Sure enough, it works!
Of course, this won't help you on your v2 ARM system, but at least we now know what the issue is. If someone would like to recompile miniDLNA into ReadyDLNA with the patch applied then all the Sony Blu Ray users who are currently having a hell of a bad time will be a lot happier.
*EDIT*
I have put a request for the coders amongst us to issue an add-on patch in this thread...

That is the correct procedure, so the issue probably isn't the MKV itself. The MKV looks pretty ordinary.Zaim wrote:
