FVS318N Bridged Mode from BT
Hi all, I'm having problems configuring an internet connection through my BT Business Hub 3 to my Netgear.
I have setup the BT router in bridged mode and connected it to my FVS318's WAN port. I have put the correct credentials into the Netgear but when I apply the settings it doesn't authenticate and I don't receive the ip address as I'd expect.
I know the credentials are correct and the Netgear is connecting via PPPoE.
Does anyone have any idea what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks

- jmizoguchiVirtuosoI think most UK ISP uses PPPoA which may not work using PPPoE. FVS only supports PPPoE
I know some UK ISP you can use PPPoE over PPPoA but that is not always true - Iain1971AspirantSpeaking with bt I pointed this out to them as I could see they were using pppoa, but they said it should still work. They did mention vpi/vci settings but I couldn't see where to set them
- jmizoguchiVirtuosoVCI /VPI is not setting for FVS
That at DSL modem side - SamirDProdigy
There's a pretty good chance that the PPPoE won't work. So the other thing you can do is plug the 318N into the BT DMZ. This way, all the traffic will pass from/to the 318 perfectly fine.Iain1971 wrote: Hi all, I'm having problems configuring an internet connection through my BT Business Hub 3 to my Netgear.

Thanks - Iain1971AspirantAs there's no DMZ port on the BT router I assume it's the configuration on the router?
- Iain1971AspirantThanks for your responses. Just for your information I got it working in the end by replacing the BT Business Hub3 with an older BT 2700HGV router and setting this to bridge mode, there was also a setting in the half hidden screen home/mdc to disable the routing functionality. All seemed to work ok then.
The Netgear was setup as PPPoE, so there seems to be no problem.
Thanks again - jmizoguchiVirtuoso

This is what you want do and not DMZ if you want FULL capable of router function of FVS318n - SamirDProdigy
For the record, you still get full capability of the router even in dmz. I've used this several times already.jmizoguchi wrote: This is what you want do and not DMZ if you want FULL capable of router function of FVS318n - jmizoguchiVirtuosoUsing bridge mode still better to use then DMZ
- SamirDProdigy
Better, yes. But you won't notice any difference 99.99999% of the time. Not worth the extra effort unless it's required.jmizoguchi wrote: Using bridge mode still better to use then DMZ
