Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
I have the rax41 nighthawk router in my basement. I want to run ethernet from that router to a wifi extender out to my garage. Can someone recommend a product that i can add with an Ethernet from my router.
I have verizon fios with 1gb download speed.
The problem is my router is in basement and i want to increase my wifi coverage beyond my block foundation out to my garage and outside. More coverage.
im looking for stable solid connection which is why whatever device i go with to out in my garage i want it to be physically connected using ethernet from my existing router in basement. Can someone please recommend a good solution? thank you in advance.

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
Many of netgears extenders have ethernet ports and support access point mode.
You can go here: https://www.netgear.com/home/wifi/range-extenders/
and then filter it by the specs you want

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
Most of Netgears extenders support access point mode. Just the very base models (like EX2700, etc) don't.
Are you wanting an AX extender or an AC extender?

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
AX= Wifi 6. its wireless AX
AC-Wifi 5, wireless AC.
One is a generation newer.
If you're not using the extender for the fastest things, the ac is fine. But if you're wanting the faster ones, then you'd like at AX. I'm a fan of the EX8000 as it has a dedicated backhaul.

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
I may look into this.
I have something here and am curious.
I picked up EX6170-100N
AC1200 RANGE EXTENDER SMB
At best buy. I cant even use as extender but as access point. I have router on ceiling in middle of basement. Right outside my basement through block is my enclosed breezeway where i put this extender. Maybe 20 ft distance.
Anyway the coverage sais up to 1500 squarefoot which seems accurate. However since i have ethernet from router to extender and using as access point, the speed im getting is 90mbps??
Im not sure why. The cable rated which i double checked.
Any ideas. My speed test reads that 90 right next to extender and some feet away.
My other devices test at 500-900 since i have verizon fios gig.
Just looking for why.
I am going to go with and extender with more covage, maybe a couple to cover more area and i guess a faster extender to get higher speed? Not that i need much. Just does not make sense and not sure I’m a fan of access point because I have to switch my WiFi on device. I’d like the
Convenience of extending so I don’t have to do anything and my continued covers is just there. Does that make sense?
Your thoughts and others please thank you

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
Its because the EX6170 is a low end model with only 10/100mbps ethernet port. So its bottlenecking.
return it and pickup the EX6400 (similar specs but gigabit) from amazon.

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
I just saw this. After you said it. Good call. I thought it was up to 1200mbps.
good call and makes sense. I had a tv once that had the same thing. An old sony bravia the ethernet port was capped at 100.
Thanks alot.
Im considering your suggestion as im looking for faster speed and most def more coverage.

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
How about if i want an extender to plug from my router to extender no access point but just to extend coverage while mainting good high speed?
What do you think of these options and or any suggestions.
gig ethernet port of coarse and im liking the 10,000 sq ft of coverage or more..🤔

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
either one would work but do not believe their "coverage" claims. Way over blown and not even close to realistic.

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
To extend your WiFi coverage from your basement to your garage with a solid connection, you should consider a WiFi access point (AP) or a mesh system. Since you want a wired connection, here are a couple of options:
Wired Access Point: A device like the Ubiquiti UniFi AC Lite or TP-Link EAP225 can be connected via Ethernet and placed in your garage. These are known for stable, reliable connections and can easily cover large areas.
Mesh System: If you’re looking for an easy-to-expand solution, a mesh system like the Netgear Orbi or TP-Link Deco could work well. Just connect one unit to your router via Ethernet in the basement, and place the other in your garage.
Both solutions offer great performance and stability with the Ethern

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
It does not seem like i can use ethernet cable from router to extender. The port on extender only seems to work for devices. Is that right? From looks of my set up, testing range and speeds dont seem like i even need it. Just curious and the fanatic in me wants to have 3 out 3 green wifi bars. Lol
Pleaae let me know your thoughts

Re: Adding wired wifi extender to my rax41 router
You'd have to ask specifically onthe tp-link forums on changes to it but usually you set it up in access point mode and then hardwire it to the router. Otherwise it defaults to extender mode.
