Are you trying to install it using the WPS method of install or using the installation assistant?
I'd recommend the installation assistant.
What router are you connecting it to?

from another thread the g1100 has special setting needed for extenders:
"...see if disabling SON helps by logging into router at myfiosgateway.com and go to Wireless Settings/Advanced Security Settings/ Other Advanced Wireless Options/Self-Organizing Network Enabled and set to Off"
then try installing it using the assistant.

the router link led is the link between router and extender.
Did you change that setting and re-run the setup process on the R7300? it might need to start back from the beginning.

the router link light is activated when you link the router to the extender. Has it been successfully installed?
