Netgear R6100

I will profess total ignorance, hence the question.  I have DSL service and currently use a D-Lin ADSL 2+ Router.  There are weak spots in my home.  I want to find something that will function as a wif-fi signal booster.  Will the R6100 do that?

Ok.  That's a 300N router (2.4 ghz only, 802.11n).  The WN3000RP or the EX2700 would be reasonable choices.

Extenders are placed in between the dead spot and the router - they need to make a solid connection to both, so they can relay the wifi.  I suggest going to the likely locations for the extender before you purchase, and then test the wifi speed/connection at that place with a laptop, tablet, or smartphone.  Speedtest.net is a useful tool for this.

If you can't find a good location for the extender, then powerline networking is another approach.  That extends your network over your home's electrical wiring.  The PLW1000 would be a good option here.  It has two plug-in modules.  You put one at the router, and connect it with ethernet.  The second is a wifi module that you plug in at dead spot.

Re: Netgear R6100

The R6100 is a router, not a wifi extender.

Netgear's wifi extenders are here: https://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-range-extenders/default.aspx

Can you give us the exact router model you are using now - then we could suggest an extender model that is suitable for your router.

Re: Netgear R6100

Thank you.  Exactly the information I was looking for.  I live in the middle of nowhere on the Eastern Shore of Virginia so DSL is currently the best solution available to me.  I just need to boost the signal and your answer solves that problem for me.
