WN3000RP Won't Finish Wizard

I got the WN3000RP today. I came home, plugged it in, followed all the steps then hit a snag.

The wizard gets through most of the steps. It created a new network, renamed it to my SSID_EXT and matched the security protocols. I entered the password and then successfully connected to the new EXT network. Everything looked good.

The last step (I assume) of the setup wizard tells you to connect to the new EXT network (done), then click a box and click continue. I do this and it tells me the network no longer exists (regardless of the fact I'm still connected to it) and to move the extender closer to the router.

I do this repeatedly, room by room, until eventually the extender is three feet away from the router in the same room. It still tells me to move it closer.

One thing I did notice is that the entire time even when I'm connected to the EXT network the PC to Extender light on the unit never lights up. The manual says it's supposed to light up when the extender is connected but it doesn't.

Could it be a defective unit or am I missing something obvious here? My networking skills are limited. I tried a factory reset on the unit, a power cycle on the modem and router...nada.

Re: WN3000RP Won't Finish Wizard

I spent more than 3 hours with the WN3000RP. Basically the same issue...the wizard didn't work with WPS, but manually found the network and finished, but it does not actually connect to the wireless afterwards. It always says to get closer, but in my case both the first and third lights are on. Also I tried it in countless spots near the router.

Trying to ping any website seems to work at first, though about 30% of packets are lost. But when I tracert I can see that the request only goes to the WN3000RP and then returns.

My router is a NETGEAR WNDR3300 with the newest firmware V1.0.45_1.0.45.
I also checked if there is any new firmware for WN3000RP, but I already got 1.0.0.12 pre-installed.

I also tried to set my LAN ip address to different values. 10.0.0.1, 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1....all the same result. You'd think that this product at least works with NETGEAR routers.
I'm about to post a very negative review, so I hope I get any useful feedback before that, so I can change my opinion. At the moment I think it's the most useless crap I ever bought.

Re: WN3000RP Won't Finish Wizard

I tried in another wireless network with a netopia 7000. And it worked.

With the netgear router the following happens:
the device does not appear in the attached devices. The default gateway is set to 192.168.1.100 and the WN3000RP's IP address is set to 192.168.1.250. That happens regardless to what IP address the router is set to. I even tried setting the router to 192.168.1.100, so the address corresponds. No luck there either. Long story short:
What can I do with my WNDR3300 to get the WN3000RP to work? It obviously is a problem with the router. Again: the firmware is up to date. There also is no MAC filter, there is no other limitation.

Re: WN3000RP Won't Finish Wizard

I was trying to use it with a Linksys WRT54GL here. I spoke to front line support as well as second tier support and supervisors. After like three hours of troubleshooting they finally came to the conclusion that it must be a defective unit.

So I took it back and got another one. I brought it home and it did the exact same thing the first one did. It was returned the next day. I'm not trying a third time.

Apparently it just doesn't play well with certain routers.

It's really a shame too because in the part of the house I needed it in it tripled the signal strength of what the router provides from the opposite side of the house.

I'm gonna try some signal boosting antennas next I think and see how that goes.

You also posted in 2years old thread.

* Sounds like defective unit unless you were able to scan existing network to connect and works but not link led.

Thank you for answering back so quickly... yes, I have concluded that this unit is defective and I will have to either return it or get it replaced. I appreciate your time and concern!
