WiFi Extender - College Dorm
My daughter has a poor wifi signal in her college dorm room. To set up an extender do we need to have access to the router, or can we just plug it into an outlet and improve the signal?

Yes, in order to setup the extender, you would need to have the extender in range of the router and also the router password.
I've linked an installation guide for one of the NETGEAR WiFi Extenders.

OK, thanks... Any suggestions if we can't get direct access to the router?

Re: WiFi Extender - College Dorm
You won't need physical access to the router.
The setup for the extender would require that it be in range of the router, so that it can extend to the room you would like.
