My Netgear nighthawk app says that I can't access the app as my firmware is out of date, and sends me to a link on my pc to download the firmware update. When I log into the router i select firmware update, search for updates and it just hangs searching for 20-30 mins and nothiing appears. I have tried this on my laptop, PC and Iphone and the same thing happens, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would manually update it over an ethernet connection. download the firmware from the support site and then extract it. Then just follow the manual firmware update process and use the firmware you downloaded.
