Please update the Traffic Meter feature for the Nighthawk R7000 to have an increased Monthly Limit that can account into the Tbytes. Comcast as an ISP has began to implement data caps at 1024Mb which equates to 1048576Mbytes but the Monthly Limit field only allows me to enter 104857Mbytes, missing the last digit which is significantly less than the data cap. Given that Comcast is monitoring the traffic it should be available to impose limits and monitor traffic independent of Comcast. It is very important this feature be added. Currently running V1.0.7.10_1.2.3 firmware. This was mentioned in the forums and it was suggested that this be submitted at this location in that post. See below; https://community.netgear.com/t5/VPN-Firewalls/Bugfix-Request-Increase-maximum-monthly-limit-for-Traffic/m-p/1185320#M6496 Original Post "This in regards to the Traffic Meter monitoring function of the SRX5308 VPN Firewall. However this would apply to any device in Netgear's product lineup that monitors the amount of IP traffic per month. Currently the traffic meter can set a monthly traffic limit of up to a maximum of 256000 MB (~250 GB). However, this is insufficient for those who are using Comcast as an ISP where the limit is set to 1 Terabyte (1024 Gb). Request that the montly traffic limit setting be adjustable in the Terabyte range." Reply "I advise you to post your concern as feature request in the Idea Exchange Board for Business here. Be reminded that the community members who will give kudos to your idea will help as the development team will be reviewing the post that has the most kudos and it might be considered to be added on the future functionality of the product."60KViews9likes20CommentsUnable to enable wireless
This morning the wireless went out on my router and I'm unable to turn it back on. When i go to the basic page is shows wireless off and a yellow caution sign on the setting, see attached. I have reset the router, pressed the physical buttons several times and toggled it in the settings, I will get teh peds on for wireless, 2.5, and 5ghz radio - but it still shows disabled. Customer service sent mere here to check for help since past its 90 day support window.Solved195KViews4likes6CommentsSOLVED: Slow wireless internet passthrough speed after firmware update
So I first purchased a Nighthawk in July 2014 and it was awesome for a while. Then in notice is past couple months my streaming services were skipping and buffering more that usual (which was almost never with the Nighthawk). I have a 110Mbps connection (from Comcast and through an SB6141 modem) but all of a sudden was only getting 10 Mbps (or less) passthrough on wireless 5G band (at start of test speed would sometimes be as high as 50 Mbps, but over a few seconds would drop to nothing..) Wired speeds were fine. Always 110Mbps+. Tried several different channels and factory resets of the router, wireless speed was still slow. Logged onto Netgear website and submitted a support ticket.... within 2 hours they emailed me back with an RMA and the next day a new unit was being FedEx'd to me. Tech support rep said it's a known hardware issue in some units... I was super impressed with the customer service, it seriously was a no hassle replacement that took all of 15 minutes of my time. EXCEPT when I received the replacement router in a few days it had the SAME PROBLEM. As soon as the new router was on and I logged in, I upgraded to the latest version of firmware, did a factory reset, and ran Speedtest. And I had the same problem: internet passthrough speed on all my wireless devices was awful. Less than 10Mbps when I have a 110+Mbps connection. (Wired speeds were fine, so was not a provider or modem issue). Contacted support again and they instructed me to download latest firmware on laptop and manually upgrade router, doing a factory reset both before and after the upgrade. They also told me to try turning off WMM (made no difference in passthrough speed, but did lower my laptops link speed from 433Mbps to 54Mbps!). I tried all of that... still slow wireless passthough speed. The only thing that changed since I first got a Nighthawk back in July 2014 (and I ran speedtests then and had a 110+Mbps wireless speed at that time), is that the firmware has upgraded several times... which got me thinking... I downloaded from Netgear support the last 5 versions of firmware for the Nighthawk. http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/en/product/R7000#sear... I then manually downgraded the Nighthawk to each previous version (doing a factory reset both before and after each installation) and ran Speedtest each time. Once I got down to Version R7000-V1.0.3.24_1.1.20 (Released 2/12/14) and ran Speedtest, the PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. Wireless speeds on all devices (laptop, HTC One M7, and iPad Air 2) were all back up to 110Mbps or more!!! Hope this experiment helps out someone else... if your're experiencing slow internet passthrough speeds and it's not your link speed (i.e. radio interference) that's the issue, there seems to be a serious problem with the last couple newer versions.. Try downgrading to firmware version R7000-V1.0.3.24_1.1.20Solved177KViews2likes22CommentsRouter randomly blocking websites
This is one of the stranger things that I have ever seen. My router is connected to the internet...and I can get to the internet...at least some of it. It is blocking certain websites however. Now to be clear..these are not FTP sites..or anything that I would think should cause any form of Security to block. As an example...one site is the bank where I pay my monthly house mortgage. Another is the website of a local University. I used to be able to get to both websites ...but something changed a few weeks ago. There are no blocked IP's ...or blocked anything of any kind set up in the configs. I even went to far as to add access of a PC's IP to "allow access to blocked sites" just as a test..that does not work either. I have reset more times that I care to say. I have set the router to the factory default. I have reloaded the firmware. I have looked for anything or any reason in this router as to why it might be blocking these websites and I can not find anything. I am sure some are asking if I have hard isolated it to the router. Yes I have. When my cell is on the house WIFI, it can not get to these sites. When WIFI is turned off, my cell can get to the sites fine. This is happening to anything routing through that router...both wired and wireless. I have confirmed with my ISP that they are not blocking anything. I know they are not the issue anyways because when I bypass the router and go straight to the cable modem, the websites are no longer blocked. In addition, I have used an old TP-Link router in place of this router and the sites are not blocked. For anybody wondering about Chrome, Firefox and IE... I tried all 3. I cleared the cache and cookies in all 3. As I said...this problem is hard isolated to this router. I am really hoping that somebody can offer some advice because this thing is about to go out a window. I did not pay this much money for this level of aggravation in my life. I tried to call Netgear... I got as far as the request for the Serial...where I am supposed to say "Got It". And no matter how I said it, yelled it....etc..the Netgear phone system just kept playing that stupid music and telling me to say "Got it" when ready. Honestly...if they can not manage a phone system any better than this, perhaps this is what I should expect from this router. Yes..I called at least 5 times and got the same exact experience each time.Solved250KViews2likes21Commentsr7000 drops internet connection
I've been reading reviews now and it appears now that the following is a known issue that they just refuse to fix. I've been an IT System Administrator for over 20 years and I would not buy another Netgear product again after dealing with their support which doesn't admit there is a known problem. I had the Netgear WNDR3400 and never had any trouble with it. I bought the Nighthawk R7000 and for $200 and my experience with other Netgear hardware I thought this unit would be great. I have had nothing but trouble with it. The Nighthawk r7000 is constantly going down. I upgrade firmware and it craps out and I have to redo the configuration. I get up in the morning and no wireless, I have to reboot it. Sometimes it goes down 2-3 times a day. The other day I got up and again no wireless, I rebooted and that didn't fix it. I go into the configuration and it says the wireless is turned off. First time I had this issue and you have to hold the wireless button on the front for about 10 seconds to turn it back on. This is ridicules that this unit has so many issues. Of course it's now out of the 90 warranty and Netgear says as long as the correct lights are on it not a hardware issue so pay us to troubleshoot or fix it yourself. When the device is a lemon, you can't fix that! NOW THAT I’M WRITING THESE REVIEWS, I FIND THAT USERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUES I’M HAVING. THEY HAVE ALSO CONTACTED NETGEAR TO NO AVAIL. BOTTOM LINE, BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT.Solved45KViews2likes28CommentsNighthawk AC1900 C7000 random disconnects every day
I recently purchased and installed the Nighthawk AC1900 model C7000 dual Wifi Modem Router. It has been dropping the internet connection every day at the same time. Sometimes twice a day. I never had this problem with my old router and modem. It is not the Wifi that is losing the connection. It is the modem. I have my computer hooked up via ethernet cable. I am very frustrated. I called my internet provider and they told me they show now problems with my connection and no history of lost signal. Is there some setting in the router that can be causing this to happen? Please help!Solved44KViews2likes4CommentsProblem with Wifi on all Apple Devices on my Network
Hello Everyone, A few days ago I started to experience WIFI issues on my Home Network with only APPLE DEVICES We have One MacBook Pro 2012, two IPhone 6+s and also a windows PC all running WIFI on a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk (Comcast ISP). The windows PC is working perfectly fine full internet access no issues at at... The IPhones and Mac are the problem... They will not connect to the app store and safari keeps displaying websites not loading images correctly, this also happens in the app store when I can get it to connect and in apps like Istagram and facebook on the Iphones. some images keep showing up with only question marks where images are supposed to be on the iphones and Macbook... Furthermore other times Safari displays the message "safari cannot connect to server" I have tried resetting the router to default settings, Tried resetting the network settings on the IPhones as well, I I have also tried a different router and nothing has worked. Let me also add that I have tried hard resets on the Modem and router.Solved192KViews1like10CommentsXbox one best settings?
Bottom line up front: I am in search of the settings that provide the best online experience specifically for Advanced Warfare (single xbox setup). I.E. provide the lowest latency experience. No I am not having any significant issues and yes I have the latest firmware. And I have the xbox setup with a reserved IP address (Static IP). I connect with a wired connection using CAT 6 Cables from modem to router and router to xbox. I have Home Telecom for ISP from Moncks Corner SC, I have cable internet 50 mbps down and 10 mbps up. Things I wish to address/ ask questions about: Question #1: UPnP, Port forwarding, or DMZ? I can get an open NAT with any of these but which one will provide the lowest latency? Question #2: Firewall, what are the best settings for xbox live? And if DMZ is used do these settings even matter? Question #3: MTU some claim this makes a difference I have played with it but can't tell for sure if it affected latency. Will it improve latency to change the MTU to something lower than the default 1500? Question #4 (Big Question): QoS, First of all the 2 besides the upstream. Wireless WMM, enable or dis enable? Downstream, I notice a custom rule can be setup to the xbox's MAC address, would this help or make latency worse? And finally, the upstream QoS, enable obviously.... Click Qos priority rule list; setup QoS rule and it shows the current rules and allows more to be created. By default xbox applications is only set to high while Skype and other useless things to me are set as highest. I changed everything that was preset as highest to high except for Netgear EVA (Not even sure what that is, anyone know?). And I set the xbox rule to Highest. So in summary Xbox and Netgear EVA are the only two set to highest everything else is something lower. So to sum up Question #4: did i do more damage than good or is there an even better setup for this? I noticed I can setup custom rules and even just setup rules for the LAN port or MAC address, would either of those be better options? Question #5: I know when setting up most QoS you have to put in your bandwidth and it must be something lower than your actual or else it all falls apart. (I.E. i get 10 mbps upstream, when I enter my upstream bandwidth in the router I must put something lower than what I actually get. Speed test vary from about 8 to 9 mbps, therefore i must put a value into the router no more than 8) When I click the button for speed test it auto puts in about 9.66 mbps. but i know sometimes i get less than that from my isp especially during peak times. So I conservatively set the upstream in the router to 8, does anybody see a problem with this or know why this QoS system would be different from others? Recap: Upstream bandwidth actual vs. value place in router. Question #6: Will turning off the wireless radios improve the wired connection latency or stability? and if so, would using a second router as an access point to handle the wireless side be a good option? Question #7 (Last one): DNS servers. I can change them on the xbox itself, would it make any difference for the xbox if; I let the xbox get DNS automatically and changed the router's DNS to google's (8.8.8.8), rather than leaving the default ISP DNS in the router and manually changing them on the xbox to google's DNS? Okay, so a lot of questions, I am not here to argue about the placeable effect and yes I understand that lag cannot be completely gotten rid of and it depends on many factors. The defaults work just fine but I have been playing Call of Duty for many years now with multiple ISP's and many different routers and setups I have learned that tweaking a setup just right gives people with no skill (like me) a nice advantage in most games. And if you combine the right setup with actual skill, well....You have all seen that person that is impossible to kill and you swear is hacking so you report them, but guess what they were not hacking. I know because I had a good setup once with verizon Fios and i was accused of cheating all the time. Unfortunately I cannot get Fiber optic internet where I live now. Also, with everything I have tried so far, the Nighthawk is by far the best router I have ever used and I have already improved my average K/D after owning it for only a few days now.Solved1.3MViews1like33CommentsNeed detailed IP traffic monitoring
I bought the Nighthawk R7000 router for my parents' house and they love it. However, I'm disappointed about it's rather simplistic traffic monitoring tools. The only info. I can get from the stock browser GUI is some basic IP traffic metering such as daily, weekly, and monthly totals passing through the router. For the past 6 months, I've been keeping a monthly log of their Internet usage (they have Comcast 50 Mbps service) and been noticing a steadily increasing rise in usage from around 60 GB of total traffic in June 2014 to now around 200 GB for Nov. 2014. I asked them if they have been using more bandwidth-heavy apps like watching YouTube videos, but they both say their general usage is about the same as back in the summer. Something strange is afoot. They have some devices that I suspect may be using a lot of this traffic --- such as (2) MagicJacks for their VoIP home phone use, as well as an Apple TV and DISH Hopper w/Sling satellite receiver. Is there DD-WRT firmware I can use on the R7000 to get detailed IP traffic stats for every device connected to the router (both wired + wireless)? If so, what is it? I've been hearing the Kong builds are the most stable, but do they have this detailed IP traffic logging functionality that I seek? Here is a sample screenshot of an ASUS router using Tomato firmware to show the kind of detailed IP traffic report by device that I am looking for:SolvedR7000 Firmware Version 1.0.4.28 supports ReadyCLOUD
