Adding Disks
1921 TopicsReadyNAS 104 in X-RAID mode does not expand adding an additional disk
Hi, I have a ReadyNas 104 (RN104|ReadyNAS 100 Series) running firmware version 6.9.1 and I had only one 2TB (WD Red) drive inserted into it. Everything is working fine but my drive is almost full. So I purchased a new 4TB (WD Red) drive and inserted it into the second channel. After doing this my system has resynced twice and I have rebooted it several times but the storage capacity stays the same. Could someone please tell me why this is and what do I have to do to expand my storage? Please find attached a screenshot of the volumes admin page. If logs are required I'm ready to send them. Thank YouSolved3.1KViews1like5CommentsUSB drive renaming
Environment is ReadyNAS 214. Firmware 6.8.0. 4*3TB drives, and 3TB+2TB USB drives attached. Originally the 3TB USB drive had a DOS partition table, with a maximum partition size of 2TB. So it was formatted as 2TB+1TB. These appeared as USB_HDD_1 and USB_HDD_2, as expected. The 2TB USB drive was then USB_HDD_3. For the partitions I was backing up, it was inconvenient to have the 3TB USB drive split in two, so I attached it to my main Linux machine, created a GPT partition table, and create a single 3TB partition. But now when I reattached it, it has appeared as USB_HDD_4. Hardly a disaster, but my OCD character would prefer to have USB_HDD_1 and USB_HDD_2. What is the best way to tidy up and create the more logical naming scheme? And my current backups go to USB_HDD_3 and USB_HDD_4 - will it be necessary to delete the backups and recreate? The "Settings" button doesn't seem to have an editable selection for "Destination". Thanks -- Peter1.2KViews1like2CommentsFlexRAID expansion (OS 6.7.1)
I've been playing around with how I am going to manage my RN516 and EDA500, looking especially at expansion options once I've disabled XRAID so as to allow for two separate volumes. In so doing, I discovered a minor bug. I created two volumes, one RAID1 with two 2TB drives in the main chassis and one with 2 1TB's in the EDA500. Once that was all set up and sync'ed, I inserted another 1TB into the EDA500. The options presented to me were for the array of 2TB's and included "Expand" or "Cancel". "Add Parity" and "Add Group" were not available. But a 1TB drive cannot be used to expand an array of 2TB drives. If I clicked on it, nothing happened. And while nothing should happen except maybe an error message, it could be confusing to some that the option was available at all. It was not inherently clear that I had to click on the volume information for the other volume to see the options for it (though I suppose most would ultimately try it). Clicking on Expand did work for that volume, and it' still re-syncing but looks like it should work, converting to RAID5. This is on OS6.7.1, but I seriously doubt it's on the list of fixes for versions up to 6.7.4. Note that this ability is contrary to what is in ReadyNAS-Volume-Expansion, which states "With Flex-RAID formatting, if you want to add disks to expand your storage capacity, you must back up the data to another system, add a disk, reformat the RAID volume, and restore the data to the new RAID volume." and also "You can added (sic) disks physically using an EDA500 Expansion chassis. However this will be a separate Volume. X-RAID is not supported across different chassis." I have not tried expanding XRAID across chasses, but it is certainly showing me I can expand FlexRAID across them. Perhaps these capabilities are new, but they are very welcome and Netgear should make sure potential buyers are aware of this capability. Unless somebody can point me to an accurate description of current expansion capabililities, I will continue to do some experiments and see what happens. Still to try: Expanding an array with a larger drive (or two). Replacing a bad drive with a larger drive (I've seen some indication this won't work). Expanding an array of mixed drives that was created under XRAID and then changed to FlexRAID (no idea what to expect). Each test takes a long time to sync (which is why I'm using smallish drives for the experiments) and I may need to factory default between some tests to be sure I'm starting "clean", so it may take some time to do all this. While I don't plan to expand an array across the chassis boundry, I'll see about testing Expanding FlexRAID across chassis boundry (shown available, but not yet tested) and expanding XRAID across the chassis boundry.4.2KViews1like10CommentsAuto Shutdown During Resync of New Disc
Hi, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I wanted to expand my nas disc capacity by swapping out my discs (4x 1TB) one-by-one. I did just that and the first new disc was resyncing and at 75% i went to bed. However i totally forgot the readynas was configured to auto-shutdown at 2 a.m... The next day (today) the readynas booted again, and i came home to check the progress of the sync. Not only was the new disc not synced, it was initialising and was going to take 17hours to initialize. the other 3 discs were not marked as RAID-discs. Thinking that did may lead to all of my discs being reinitialized i shutdown the nas and took out the new disc. However after booting again the discs are still not recognised. What to do now? Thanks. I've had my ReadyNAS for several months. I began with 2x3TB drives, and ended up expanding it to 4x3TB using X-RAID. The unit has worked well. I decided to expand the array by installing larger drives, so I purchased a 6TB drive that was on the ReadyNAS compatibility list. After upgrading the firmware to the latest 6.6.1 OS, I removed one of the 3TB drives, and installed the 6TB drive. Shortly afterward, the system reported that the array was degraded, and started a resync. At this time, the data was still accessible, and appeared to be running well. After a few minutes, the shares were inaccessible, and the web interface was no longer responding properly. I left the system in this state for 90+ hours, hoping that I just needed to give is time to resync. When I have all four drives (3x3TB +1x6TB) installed, the system will not boot up at all, as it will report that it failed to boot. If I remove the 6TB drive, and attempt to boot on the other 3x3TB drives, the system will start, but reports the following: Remove inactive volumes to use the disk. Disk #1,2,3 When I click on "Shares" I receive the followin error: No volumes exist All three drives are displayed in orange on the "Volumes" page. At this point, if I install the 6TB drive into slot 4, all 4 bays are displayed in orange, and the "Remove inactive volumes" error includes "1,2,3,4" in the error. I have attempted to contact support, however the phone line tells me I have to purchase a support agreement. When I attempt to look as the support agreements, I'm unable to figure out how to choose and purchase a support option. I am using this device primarily to store videos for home use, and the device is not used in an office My most important data *should* be backed up, but I'd still like to attempt to recover any usable data if possible I'd like to know how to purchase a single incident support plan for this issue, or determine any other options available. I'd like to know if there are any commands I can do to attempt to access the data on the array3KViews1like5CommentsNew shares requiring username and password
I have half a dozen ReadyNas NV+ units and am having a problem with NAS shares requiring login. For most of my ReadyNas NV+ units I have 4 drives configured in a Raid5 and I use the detault shares of BACKUP and MEDIA, I can see these by tyoing in the IP address of the NAS unit preceded by \\ e.g. \\10.1.1.1 However for one I have installed 2 x 750gb and 2 x 500gb drives each configured as a RAID1 Mirror The ReadyNas NV+ installed the default shares on the 750gb raid1 and I can see the default shares with no access problems I created a share on the 500gb drives and I can see it along with the default shares, however, when I click on that share it requests a username and password. I want to be able access this NAS from any computer and any username without this request, so how do I achieve this, I checked all the setting on the share and they seem identical to the default shares.8.6KViews1like22CommentsRAIDar 4.3.8
Anyone know where I can download RAIDar 4.3.8 on the netgear download page there is only 6.1. Having an issue where I have installed 2 x 3Tb drives and want Raid 0. Even though I select Raid 0 in the set up it defaults back to RAID 1. Same issue seen here - https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/Unable-to-create-RAID-0-volume-on-ReadyNAS-duo-v2-with-two-disks/td-p/976288 Seems using RAIDar 4.3.8 fixed this but I can't find the download anywhere. Can anyone help?9.6KViews1like1Comment
