PLEASE update the Genie program. It is so slow, clunky, outdated, and ugly. It's really pathetic, especially in the vain of more expensive hardware. The user experience does not match the price. It's like buying a Mercedes but the seats are made of cheap cloth. If I spend hundreds of dollars on a top of the line product, I expect the software to be excellent. Other companies have much better software. Catch up.223KViews37likes21CommentsBandwidth monitoring by device
I am hoping to find a router that can offer this. This an example of what I would like to see: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-howto/32970-how-to-choose-the-best-router-qos -- particularly the screenshots entitled "NETGEAR Dynamic QoS devices view": and "NETGEAR Dynamic QoS bandwidth use over time": I asked this of two different support technicians from NETGEAR. The one I spoke to yesteday said that the R6400 and R7000 and all higher model numbers offer this. So, I went out and purchased the R6400 and set it up, but I can't figure out how to get this information from Genie. So I spoke to another support technician from NETGEAR today, and he informed me that no NETGEAR products offer this feature. Does anyone know if this is true? Is this really not available built-in to any NETGEAR router?Solved95KViews2likes11CommentsCan't login to router via Genie
While I can login to my router (WNDR4500) via my browser (Chrome and IE9), I cannot login to Router Settings via Genie on my PC (Win7). I receive a message of "Login failed. The router response timed out." I get a similar response when I try to access the NetGear Genie app via my iPad (3rd gen.): "Action timed out. Please try again.". This was not always the case. I first noticed over a month ago when I could no longer access the Network Map via Genie on my iPad. The router is otherwise working fine, but I would like to re-establish the functionality of NetGear Genie app on my iPad--any ideas? I've tried deleting the app and re-installing, but that has not worked. I thought this problem was solely on my iPad, but only recently discovered the inability to login via the Genie app on my PC as well.Solved92KViews2likes108CommentsNetgear Genie - Network Map
The network map needs more work. The current version assumes that your primary network adapter is the subnet you want to scan. That is not always the case. We need an option to specify the subnet to scan for devices. In reality it should be reading the ARP and DHCP table from the main internet router and the application should not be scanning the network. It would also be nice if the device master list was actually stored on the router its self. Each individual Genie apps seems to be generating its own list. The network map seems to have a limit on the number of devices. I have about 55-60 IPed devices in my house and I can only see about 30 at a time. Hello Netgear its the IoT age and everything is on WiFi now... I love that parental controls and network map now allow device by device profiles settings. However, given the limitations to the network map feature above its hard to control every device, from every Genie application and from remote locations.76KViews15likes7CommentsHidden Network
I recently noticed a Hidden Network as well as my Netgear Network displayed. All the other networks in my neighborhood no longer display. This is true only on my laptop. All other devices laptops in the house show the neighbors networks and no hidden network. All laptops are Windows 10. The connect automatically box is checked on the Hidden Network and even if I uncheck the box it will come back as checked. The signal strength is identical to my Netgear network. Can anyone explain what this is and if I have a problem. ThanksSolved66KViews0likes9CommentsParental control not working
Hi I have been using OpenDNS only as Parental controls in Netgear Genie app have never worked. I would prefer to use Netgear genie so i have removed my network from the OpenDNS and I am trying to get Netgear genie parental controls to work. It states it is enabled and I have put the settings to moderate. When I search porn it allows me to open any porn site without a problem. no matter what I search it doesn't bring up the blocked page like it did when I only had OpenDNS doing the job. Please help :)Solved64KViews4likes49CommentsTime Schedule and Parental Controls
I am trying out the Nighthawk router and I am comparing its features to Linksys and Asus routers. The router has the latest firmware version. I have a few questions about using the Nighthawk router. I am, more less, confused about some of the features such as time scheduling and blocking sites. Also, I don't understand the purpose of OpenDNS if I can block most sites on the router itself. I am sure that OpenDNS does a better job at blocking sites and categories. 1. How do I block a site such as Facebook on individual device? I don't want to block it from other family members. I have tried both OpenDNS and blocking the site on the router itself from preventing both an iPod and Macbook from accessing Facebook. Both the iPod and laptop let Facebook come up. I have tried to block Youtube on the router and OpenDNS with the same result. I can, still, access the site on my iPod and laptop. 2. How do I set a time schedule on individual devices? I don't want to turn off or disable the wireless to go off at a specific time, I just want to block a device from accessing the internet at specific times like 8pm to 9am. 3. Do I use the Netgear Genie to access the router from outside my home? I like using my work computer to login to my home router to change settings and so on. I like the Nighthawk router but I need to work through some of these issues such as time scheduling and being able to block sites to individual devices. Perhaps, someone can offer some suggestion on what I am doing wrong and explain some things.62KViews1like29CommentsGenie Problem
This may be the wrong place to discuss the Genie product but I would appreciate some help. Using Windows 8.1 through the Netgear D6200 to the Apple Airplay Express. The music drops are annoying and I have found that the problem may be exacerbated by the Genie software. On the Windows page "devices and printers" there is an item "Genie Media Servers" and if I close out the system and then restart there will be two or "Genie Media Servers" and then three. The more replications of the Genie Media Servers icon the more the problem exist. When I delete all but one of the Genie Media Servers the system works fairly well. What is this function and how does one control it? Am I the first to have this problem? Tom F55KViews0likes43Commentsidentifying devices on my netwrok
network genie says i have 12 devices on my home network. some are identified by a name, but many simply have a number. How could i go about identifying and naming each device on my network. things like my pc and ipad are identified by the name i gave the device. but my rokus are not identified except by number and im not sure what the others are.Solved50KViews0likes6CommentsDynamic DNS updating IP address that doesn't match router's IP
This may have been answered elsewhere but I couldn't find a similar question. I'm not talking about NAT here. I understand my devices have different IP addresses that are issued out by the router (ie 192.168.1.n) but my confusion isn't there. The problem seems to be that my "public" IP address doesn't match the routers actual IP. On the admin page, the advanced tab shows the IP address of my router (100.65.140.24). This seems to be my REAL ip address, as i can connect to my home server via port forwarding outside my home network when using that IP address. However, if i use services like http://www.whatsmyip.org then it shows my IP address differently (199.87.86.198). WHen i've set up the dynamic DNS with No-Ip, this is the same address it pushes... so it doesn't work. I don't understand why I seem to have a router IP and an "incorrect" public IP. What's going on there? Does it have something to do with my ISP - and if so, how does my router admin screen know the correct address? Could this be related to IPv6 or some other setting on my router? Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thank all!Solved41KViews0likes4Comments
