Hello: about 6 months ago during an overnight thunderstorm I powered off my Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ (using Frontview -> Shutdown) and once it had switched off I disconnected it from its UPS and went back to sleep. When I returned to it in the morning it wouldn't power on. There are no signs of life at all, I've tried plugging it in, unplugging it again, plugging it back in, and holding down the front button for different durations - all to no effect. There were a couple of previous occasions when I'd turned it off and it didn't immediately come back to life when I pressed the front power button - but mysteriously it did turn on by itself, say, 10 minutes later. Or one time when it refused to switch back on until I'd pressed the power button every day for 2 weeks - then it suddenly sprang back into life again. I've survived without it for 6 months, but I know I'm living on borrowed time. I keep all of my important files on the NV+ (luckily I had copies of the files I really needed on my PC when this all first happened) and I had it running nightly backups to an external hard disk connected to the USB port on the back. I can't know for certain, but I think the power supply must have failed. There are no bad smells or anything like that (my first generation 1 NV went out that way quite spectacularly some years ago), it seems to have died a quiet death - but perhaps the problem lies elsewhere? Anyway, I need to know what my options are (assuming the problem is with the power supply). I can't seem to find a replacement PSU anywhere online. Is there any scope for rigging up a regular PC PSU? I remember some threads on this forum discussing this a while back, but it involved complicated rewiring. Otherwise, does anyone else know where I could source a replacement in the UK? Alternatively, I'd be very glad to hear any suggestions for coaxing the unit back into operation - maybe there are some tricks I'm not aware of at the moment. Thank you very much in advance for your help!14KViews0likes16CommentsReadyNas NV+ "Kernel Panic"
Hi ReadyNas NV+ RND4000 wont boot, LCD just displays "Kernel Panic" I've performed the memory test twice as recommended in forum threads I've stumbled across. (hold down power button on power-up until 'Memory test' is displayed, then release) Every time I reboot I can't seem to get by 'Kernel Panic' Any suggestions? Thanks :)14KViews0likes23CommentsReadyNas NV+
Hi, I need to reset the admin password for my ReadyNAS NV+ unit. The default admin/netgear1 does not work. I've forgotten what I set it to - it's well over six months. I tried the http://<IP-Address>/passwotd_recovery and unfornuately I do not remember the email and/or the answer to the recovery question. How do I reset to factory defaults so I can have access to the box? Thanks.Solved13KViews0likes3Commentsinstalled new router, now I can't access NAS
I have an RND2110 (among other network devices) connected via a Netgear switch to my PC. Another device connected to the switch is a new router. After installing the new router, the IP addresses of many of the attached devices changed, presumably, renegotiated by the new router (much to my surprise). I have this straightened out in most cases, but I can no longer access the RND2110. None of the Windows 7 or 8 PC's connected to the switch can access the NAS anymore. When I run RAIDar, the device is found at the previous IP address, but when I attempt to browse the NAS via RAIDar, a timeout occurs. How can I get my network PC's to be able to access the NAS again? thanks Keith11KViews0likes10CommentsUnable to remove apps
So, this is the second time that this has occurred. Install an app, then when removing it the removal fails and this stops the webportal from loading after boot up. The last time it occurred I had to factory reset the unit. The app in this particular case was Cacti. Would someone like to test this? I have a 102 model on the current software update. Install an app and when it fails to uninstall the webportal fails to load on next boot up.10KViews0likes44CommentsReadynas NV+ V1 - Mounting OS partition in support mode
Hi All, I'm a newbie to the forum but just wanted a definitive answer on whether it's possible to mount the OS partition from telnet support mode to clear up suspected problem log files. Alternatively, is there a way to enable SSH from telnet support mode. I did see an article on mounting the OS partition from support mode but it needed mdadm which isn't available on the NV+ V1. There were other articles talking about using another command fuse-ext3 but that's not there either. How does the boot loader mount the file system under normal conditions ? Are there alternative commands or is it managed by one of the background daemon processes that run ? I know I can do both from FrontView, but that's my problem at the moment the interface login timesout. I can access shares and do everything else just fine, so I suspect the OS partition may be full and is stopping me connecting the Frontview GUI. Advice appreciated. p.s. I know I can do a full factory reset to clear the logs, but I want to keep my data on there if possible (without having to move it away and back). Thanks in advance.9.8KViews0likes15CommentsHow to replace failing Disk 1?
Our small office currently runs about a 3 year old ReadyNAS NV+ with two Western Digital WDC WD5001ABYS drives. It is set up in a Raid 1 configuration. Got a smart error about 2 weeks ago and another one today. So a total of 2 errors. Both on Disk 1. Figure we better replace it before it get worse. Drive health status is green on both is good otherwise. Whats involved in replacing Disk 1. Do we simply get another 500GB hard drive and replace the failing Disk 1, shutdown the fileserver, install the drive in place of the current Disk 1 and fire the server back up. Or do we have to actually move the working Disk 2 into the bay that Disk 1 was in and put the new hard drive into the Disk 2 bay. I want to do this to be a quick and painless as possible so we aren't down any longer than necessary. Also can we use any Serial ATA 500GB hard drive or does it have to the same one. I understand the WD drives that are in there are designed for RAID use. Does it matter? Thanks in advance, Adam8.6KViews0likes4CommentsHow do I reformat the drives and create a new Raid 5
Good day, I have a ReadyNAS NV +V2 with 4 X 3 TB drives and RAIDator version 5.3.11 that I want to sell as I have upgraded to a newer NAS which accepts 6 TB drives. I want to reformat the drives and create a new Raid 5 so that the new owner is not able to read/recover any of my data. I was hoping to do something that I can do on my MAC, where you can re-format drives to a military spec, which means there is no way to recover any data on the drive. My questions is: How can I do this on the ReadyNAS NV+V2? Thanks8.4KViews0likes5Comments
