February 6, 2018 Networking fast track: what is a modular ethernet switch and what does it mean to AV? 14:30-15:00 Laurent Masia – NETGEAR LaurentMa Commercial Solutions Theatre Hall 8 – free to attend, no pre-booking necessary Description: Historically, Ethernet switches come in fixed configurations (16-port, 48-port, etc.). However, as AV and IT collide, a new class of switch has come to market. The modular Ethernet switch combines the configurability of a matrix switch with the power and scalability of Ethernet to allow systems more custom-tailored to each end user’s needs. Objectives: • Learn about this new class of Ethernet switch • Understand how to configure and design AV systems with a flexible modular Ethernet switch at the core • Compare and contrast the flexibility of a hybrid copper/fiber modular Ethernet switch against the traditional configurable matrix February 7 Networking fast track: what is multicast? 12:30-13:00 Laurent Masia – NETGEAR LaurentMa Commercial Solutions Theatre Hall 8 – free to attend, no pre-booking necessary Description: As more AV distribution moves to IT infrastructure, it is critical for AV system designers and installers to understand some of the basic networking protocols that make this possible. Multicast is a crucial technology that allows high bandwidth streams to move around a network without overwhelming the entire network. Objectives: • Learn what multicasting is, and why it is necessary for any practical AV over IP solution • Identify tools for configuring and troubleshooting multicast networks • Understand the difference between multicasting and VLANs, and a little bit about how they interact February 7, 2018 Networking Crash Course for AV Systems Engineers 13:30-14:30 Host: Laurent Masia – NETGEAR LaurentMa AVIXA AV/IT Workshop – Room D203 1 RU offered Description: More and more of AV distribution is moving to Ethernet networks. AV system designers and installers must familiarize themselves with the important concepts that make these new systems work. Even if you aren’t planning to become an IT systems admin, life gets easier when you can speak their language. Objectives: • Learn the basics of important networking topics for AV: multicast, VLANs, routing vs switching • Understand the different switch topologies and concepts: non-blocking, spine and leaf, link aggregation • Apply calculations of video bandwidth to network design in order to ensure a flawlessly working AV over IP system After these training sessions, we will provide training materials or slides here if possible.Solved7.3KViews0likes4CommentsXS724EM/M4200-10MG-POE+ & MS510TXPP - Can't Force 1GB on MGig Ports for incompatible MR53E MGig AP
We own 3 Netgear MGig switches XS724EM / M4200-10MG-POE+ and MS510TXPP with any of these Switches if we attempt to plug in a Cisco Meraki MR53E AP (Supports MGig 2.5) the switch will show a 2.5G 'up" but it can't connect to the Network... Meraki has suggested we manually force the switches to 1Gbps while they research the issue (if we plug the MR53E into a 1G on the MS510TXPP it works with no issues - if we set one of the 2.5/5G ports to 1G it won't connect) for the XS724EM - under "system management" "port status" select a port... under "Speed" the only settings are Auto, Disable or 100M Full - is there any way to manually force 1G on ports? for the M4200-10MG-POE+ under "switching" "ports" "port configuration" under "speed" - no options if we just typing "1000" does that set the port to 1G? Any ideas?SolvedProSafe GS752TPS SFP/SFP+ Compatability
I purchased a Meraki MX64 Firewall and was wondering if a Cisco Meraki 10 GbE SFP+ will work in the Netgear Fiber port. I can also purchase a 1G SX Multimode SFP Module that will work with Meraki. I love my ProSafe switches and would like to keep using them with our Meraki appliances.SolvedStacking XS708v2 and GS752TPv2
Hi everyone, I had already a 10GB copper switch (XS708Ev2) but it did not have enough ports for the just remodeled office. So I purchased a GS752TPS . My mistake is...probably... that I haven't checked if these two switches are stackable - having them share the same network through the SFP+ connection. I connected the SFP+ plus it does not do anything. I looked into the configuration of both switches but I find no reference to a stack option. Am I doing something wrong or indeed these switched cannot be stacked over SFP+? Thanks in advance for any advice! Cheers! Dear community, I am trying to set up VRRP on two M4100-28G with latest firmware 12.0.7.7. I have set up 3 IP based VLAN networks and I am trying to run VRRP in all directions. There is no problem in the priority of the switches. But when I try to degrade a priority based on single interface it's not working. I will explain what I mean. Let's say that I have interface 23 and interface 24 in VLAN15. I create VRRP with id:15 and one of the switches becomes master and the other backup. When I go to VRRP tracking and select vrrp 15 I can choose only interface VLAN15 but not the interfaces 23 or 24, the software does not see them online, I get false even when there is active device on the other hand. This way the only way when I can get a priority degrade is when all interfaces of that VLAN are down. This is not what I want because I have other interfaces in different VLANS and I would like to drop the priority based on single interface not based on the whole VLAN interface. I would like to know can I do what I want and how can I do it, or I have to accept that this is what Netgear firmware is possible. I will be gratefull for any help!Solved3.3KViews0likes7CommentsM4300 and Mix Stacking
Hi Guys, I have the M4300 12x12f switches and im trying to see if I can stack with other netgear switches. Can anyone tell me if the following switches are stackable? S3300-52X - I read about this switch being able to stack, but only if I invite the M4300 into a Stacked S3300 Cluster? X5728T GS748T3KViews0likes3CommentsCannot enable PFC on any port on M4300-8x8F
Trying to enable PFC on some ports on our new M4300-8X8F switch, running firmware version 12.0.7.8 (latest). Receive the following alert via web gui: Error! PFC is not supported on this interface. Have also tried via CLI and receive the following; This command is not supported on the port x/x/x According to the datasheet, PFC is supported. I have tried on multiple ports, some of which have had no configuration applied to them out of the box. I've also tried it on active ports and inactive. I get the same errors each time. Could anyone please help? Cheers, Ben2.9KViews0likes4CommentsXS724EM firmware 1.0.2.5 has NO-link issue with Cisco c300/c350 SMB switches at 1G link speed.
XS724EM firmware 1.0.2.5 is NOT fully compatible with Cisco small medium business 1G switches. For example, Cisco C300 SMB Series, C350 SMB Series, etc. To be clear: XS724EM Firmware 1.0.2.5 = Unable to pass any traffic to-from Cisco SMB switches at 1G whatsoever. XS724EM Firmware 1.0.2.0 = Works fine with Cisco SMB switches which ONLY support 100M or 1G links speeds. I had to downgrade XS724EM from 1.0.2.5 firmware, back down to 1.0.2.0 firmware, for it to be able to connect and work again with any of the Cisco SMB-series switches. In the 1.0.2.5 firmware release notes, it says, "A new physical layer driver is supported to improve interoperability." - I believe this to be the problem. as no physical link-layer communication is working using this XS724EM 1.0.2.5 firmware with Cisco C300/350-series SMB switches at 1G speeds. AND, because XS724EM does NOT have any feature to force speed at 1G, this means it is unable to link at all - no traffic passes whatsoever. In my opinion: This newer XS724EM firmware 1.0.2.5 should be pulled from download, reverted to 1.0.2.0, then patched, and finally re-launched again later (when compatibility is tested better). THANK GOODNESS, that NetGear still allows download of prior 1.0.2.0 firmware and lets you downgrade to work with Cisco again. The older NetGear firmware is located here (directly from NetGear): https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/XS724EM/XS724EM_V1.0.2.0.zipSolved
