Have two NV+ available (original Netgear post Infrant v1s), upgraded to 1G, set aside drive less, were working fine after being upgraded to 4.1.15. If you send me a prepaid shipping label link, I'd be willing to pay for =good= packaging. Would hate for them to end up as eWaste if someone can repurpose them.SolvedReadyNas NV+ (v1) Upgrade Suggestions
Hello, I am a long time ReadyNAS NV and NV+ User, I upgraded to the NV+ SPARC after my NV died well before NETGEAR was involved, and have been happy with it since, I have upgraded the memory to 1GB, upgraded the storage twice with XRAID, run it on 1 1GB switch and replaced the fan with a slightly quieter version when I had to move it to my office instead of the basement. The problem I am having is it is getting a little long in the tooth such that read/write performance is VERY LOW in comparison to new systems. Some of this could be the CIFS/Samba with Windows 10/8.1, but some of it is age. When transferring large files, speed drops down to an abysmal 1-2MBps, smaller files are better but only go into the 5-6MBps range. And when I try to stream video over SMB to my Boxee Box (running Kodi) it can studder. I had just tried to transfer 100GB and it said it would take 24 hours!, where a USB 2.0 thumb drive attached to the computer took about an hour. A long time ago (In a galaxy far far away :) for the Jedi Council ), this used to be the reverse. Transfers to the NAS were exponentially faster than USB. So... While it works fine, it is probably time to upgrade. I originally bought the NV+ 4 bay since it was the powerful prosumer model and did some high-load stuff, running a lab of about 12 systems at home. Now, I have converted most of that all over to 1 large VMWare system, besides the Sun BLADE 2500 Solaris 10 workstation :) and while the NV+ introduced iSCSI, I never used it, but if performance shows, it probably would not work very well. The models have diverged a bit, so not sure where to look now. What I am looking for is a good 4 bay prosumer model, similar to the NV+ of this time, that I can do the standard Samba, NFS and even iSCSI with good performance (Bonding network links perhaps), something that won't make media stutter when I stream it, and something that could possibly transcode it as well although It doesn't have to be Plex as I usually connect internally to my network via OpenVPN. The final part is the price. Since my NV+ is working, I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for a new unit, I have the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) to think about (answering the why do you need a new one when the old one works... :) ). Thank you for your time.Solved7.2KViews0likes13CommentsReadyNAS NV+ won't turn on - power supply issue? #27356934
I shutdown my NV+ on Friday night, expecting a large storm while I was out. Tried to power on Saturday morning ubt NV+ not responding - no lights on front panel. I tried tapping the power button, with no effect. I removed the power cable then re-connectted it; no effect. I've seen on this forum multiple reports of similar issue, which suggests the PSU needs to be replaced. (I also saw warnings not to hit the reset button, so I've avoided that.) https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/ReadyNAS-NV-Fails-to-Power-Up-after-Power-Failure/m-p/1096946#U1096946 https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Hardware-Compatibility/ReadyNAS-NV-power-suppy/m-p/1086573#M14126SolvedReadyNAS NV+ Frozen at Quota Check
Greetings! I came home to find that my ReadyNAS NV+ (which is at least five years old) had frozen and was invisible to RAIDar. After being turned off and on again, the NV+ started the quota check. But it froze at 25.4%. I tried again, and this time it froze at 15.1%. I've read some other threads here, and it looks like this can happen when one of the drives starts to fail. However, I didn't receive any warnings or drive errors, and I don't know which drive is the problem drive (or if there even is a problem). I have two 1 TB drives in a simple RAID 1 configuration. So, here are my questions: 1. Does the frozen quota check mean that I definitely have a problem with one of the hard drives? 2. If the answer to 1 is yes, how can I tell which hard drive is the wonky one? I do have a backup by USB, so if I have to replace both drives I'll survive, but of course I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it. I've read through three or four threads here, but I'm still not sure how I should proceed. I know that one option is to go into the boot menu and skip the volume check, but the NetGear website insists that this should be done only after consultation with NetGear support. So, I'd be grateful for any advice or suggestions. Thanks! MatthewSolved6.2KViews0likes6CommentsFan 1 reported failed on NV+. Do I need a PWM 4-pin replacement fan?
Hello, I have an NV+ (older one - I believe it uses a Sparc). I'm getting notificatinons that Fan 1 has failed. It doesn't look like it has failed - as it is still spinning, but it does show 0 rpm on the dashboard. So perhaps the sensor is gone. When I recalibrate, it comes back momentarily - but then goes back to zero. So my question - do I need a 3 or 4 pin (PWN) fan to replace this with? I believe it is a 92mm fan and i've seen the Noctua NF-B9 is a popular choice, but it comes in a standard model and a PWM model. Seeing as how the NV+ can slow down the fan speed depending on need, does it need a 4-pin PWM fan? Thanks in advance.NV+ RND4000 Power Supply Failure: What are my options?
A few months ago the power supply died on my NV+ v1 (RND4250-100NAS). I tried to contact support as suggested in some other forum posts, but couldn't get anywhere with the online form – it only tells me my product is EOL and provides no options to actually contact anyone or open a case. I've read other forum posts from just a few months ago suggesting it might be possible to get a replacement PSU: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/ReadyNAS-NV-Fails-to-Power-Up-after-Power-Failure/m-p/1100816 https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Hardware-Compatibility/ReadyNAS-NV-won-t-turn-on-power-supply-issue-27356934/m-p/1124966#U1124966 I've also seen some as far back as a couple years ago saying there are no more PSUs available. It's also not clear whether or not my unit falls under the Service Action, and whether or not that actually matters. So i'm not sure what my options are. I've done all the basic troubleshooting steps like trying different power outlets, and swapping power cords. I remember smelling a burnt electrical smell the time i tried to power it on but it wouldn't. Zero activity since then – no lights, sounds, or anything. It's almost certainly a failed PSU. Had my second power supply fail last week. Found another in the UK, installed, and was greeted with this screen... I first tried OS re-install, but no change. I'm followed that with factory reset, and while it's still syncing, I'm getting the same screen in Frontview (cache cleared then reloaded). Will I need to wait for the sync to finish, or is there something else wrong? The NAS currently houses 4x2TB drives, and the data is backed up - hence the reset. Raidar setup after reset was normal. Prior to the resets, data was accessible and appeared normal. Thanks for your time. edit: Frontview might have been corrupt prior to the power supply failure. I hadn't pulled it up in months.Solved4.7KViews0likes15CommentsReplacement disk not recognised Readynas nv+ RND4000
I had 2 x 2TB drives in my nv+. One of the drives failed so I replaced it with a new drive. (Made sure its on compatibility list.) It's supposed to be hot swappable, but: - When I place the new drive in the bay. The sync does not begin. It's not recognised in either Raidar or Frontview. In fact, it causes frontview to become completely unresponsive. The only way of getting frontview to work again is to rebool the nv+ with just the single working drive in it. - I've tried powering down too and putting the drive in when powered down. But the nv+ just hangs on 'Booting...' forever (like 15hrs). - I've also tested the drive on a windows machine and it works fine. Could the nv+ itself be faulty or does anyone know anything else I can try? thanks...Can ReadyNAS NV+ Sync with Amazon Cloud Drive?
I have a tried and true ReadyNAS NV+ with latest firmware (4.1.15). Any way I can sync shares with my Amazon Drive with this unit? Model: ReadyNAS NV+ [X-RAID] Serial: 23J30375002A4 Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.15 [1.00a043] Memory: 256 MB [2.5-3-3-7]Solved4.4KViews0likes2CommentsBackup to USB fails due to lack of space; but it's an empty drive and there are no files on it!
I've upgraded my NV+ v1 (4.1.14) with 4x 2TB drives and I ran into the 4k block size problem. So I'm trying to backup my device so I can factory reset it. The current size of the volume is 1.3TB, so I took out one of the 2TB drives to use as a backup via USB. 1.3TB should fit easily into 2TB, right? I added the 2TB drive to the front USB port and formatted it as ext3, it shows up just fine in the shares and has the expected free space. So I made a backup task and source=share/ dest=USB/Sharename/ and ran it. it runs for a few minues and stops with this error: Error encountered copying data from source path ==> /USB_HDD_4_1//blah due to lack of disk space. [Job 003] I look at the USB drive and it is FULL. Zero bytes available. It has made a few folders, but they are all empty. What is going on? Are there hidden files (.appledouble, etc)? I ran BlueHarvest on the volume before the backup and it deleted a bunch of these. But not 2TB's worth. I use this volume mainly with my mac... is there anything I'm missing? Any help is appreciated!
