I have just bought a Netgear Nighthawk M1 through Telstra to enable working in the field. Plugged into the wallmount to charge and the battery seems to drain instead. It will only charge through USB which defeats the purpose of being completely mobile. There is a community discussion on this going back to 2014 but no obvious solution offered. Any suggestions?Support for Linux clients and OPENVPN on R7000 or any other Netgear router
Althought the R7000 router has support for MAC and Windows clients when using the Netgear R7000 OPENVPN built-in server, it does not support Linux as a client. See the following link: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R7000-VPN-Service-TAP-or-TUN/m-p/1002408#M20691 Currently I am running the latest "supported" firmware version: V1.0.4.30_1.1.67 as of Nov 10 2015 There is a great number of Linux users and not being able to take advantage of the OPENVPN server in the Router seems to be a big limitation/oversight. I personally purchased this router because of the fat that it had a built in OENVPN server, so that I could connect my Android and Linux devices to my network. As I discovered after purchasing the router neither of these platforms are supported. It seems that IOS and Android support is coming, but no plans to implement Linux. It may be possible to manually configure a Linux client if Netgear would publish how OPENVPN is implemented. I understand that this would not be "supported" by Netgear, but for those of us who have some technical skill we could possibly implement it and make it work for our needs. Providing information such as and not limited to the following would be very useful since OPENVPN is open source software: Tunnel Device (TUN/TAP) Protocol UDP/TCP) Port number (1194 -> official port, or another port defined by Netgear) Encryption cipher (None, blowfish, AES-512/256/192/128 CBC, etc....) Hash algorithm (SHA1/256/512,MD4/5,none, etc....) TLS Cipher (none, AES-128/256 SHA, etc...) LZO Compression (Adaptive, yes/No, none) Authority/ Password usage TLS Auth Key usage ? PKCS12 Key usage? Static Key usage? ns-cert-type server ? Is access limited to the local network, to access the internet only, or to both local and internet? etc..... This post is essentially to ask for Netgear to provide the following: Implement a Linux client file and instructions on how to implement it for the various distributions of Linux. Provide comprehensive documentation on how OPENVPN is implemented in the R7000 router or any other router that has an OPENVPN server built-in.95KViews13likes7CommentsNighthawk R7000 Traffic Meter Monthly Limit Increase
Please update the Traffic Meter feature for the Nighthawk R7000 to have an increased Monthly Limit that can account into the Tbytes. Comcast as an ISP has began to implement data caps at 1024Mb which equates to 1048576Mbytes but the Monthly Limit field only allows me to enter 104857Mbytes, missing the last digit which is significantly less than the data cap. Given that Comcast is monitoring the traffic it should be available to impose limits and monitor traffic independent of Comcast. It is very important this feature be added. Currently running V1.0.7.10_1.2.3 firmware. This was mentioned in the forums and it was suggested that this be submitted at this location in that post. See below; https://community.netgear.com/t5/VPN-Firewalls/Bugfix-Request-Increase-maximum-monthly-limit-for-Traffic/m-p/1185320#M6496 Original Post "This in regards to the Traffic Meter monitoring function of the SRX5308 VPN Firewall. However this would apply to any device in Netgear's product lineup that monitors the amount of IP traffic per month. Currently the traffic meter can set a monthly traffic limit of up to a maximum of 256000 MB (~250 GB). However, this is insufficient for those who are using Comcast as an ISP where the limit is set to 1 Terabyte (1024 Gb). Request that the montly traffic limit setting be adjustable in the Terabyte range." Reply "I advise you to post your concern as feature request in the Idea Exchange Board for Business here. Be reminded that the community members who will give kudos to your idea will help as the development team will be reviewing the post that has the most kudos and it might be considered to be added on the future functionality of the product."60KViews8likes20CommentsRegion change?
I bought R8000 from US during my travel and i want to use it within EU. Region setting can't be changed from admin interface and wireless performance is sluggish because of the low power compared to my home country. Is there any way to change region of this router other then US?Solved122KViews0likes22CommentsWhat is the AT entercnd password?
You can connect via "telnet 192.168.1.1 5510" to gain access to "AT shell" which responds to various AT commands, e.g. status or band selection. "at!entercnd" is the command for band selection but it needs a password. What is the password? It's not any of the common ones it usually is.Enable Telnet on R7000
Hi, I tried a lot of ways to enable telnet service without success....Searching in the community, I saw that there are others people interested of this function on the R7000 AC1900 Smart WiFi Router Nighthawk. These are some examples of posts in the communty: 1) Enabling telnet on R7000 2) Telnet not working on latest firmware (V1.0.9.10_1.2.21) 3) How to enable telnet on this router? Please, can you release a FW with this feature? Thanks!13KViews0likes3CommentsNetGet NightHawk X6 AC3200 R8000 - OpenVPN - MD5
Good night, I have a NetGear NightHawk X6 AC3200 R8000 with the firmware 1.0.4.12 installed, the lastest, and I can confirm that no change has been made to the VPN certificate, even though this was known at least since January 2018 when a NetGear Moderator indicated that NetGear was going to support the new certificate before OpenVPN stops supporting the MD5 certificate (April 2018). Here is the post I refer to: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R8300-Support-for-MD5-Certificates-with-Built-In-VPN/m-p/1496268#M81267 I insist to NetGear to solve this problem in the following days and fulfil with their word. This is a complete lack of respect to their clients and users, and I would not stand at all this situation. If necesary, I will take al necesary means to make sure that this problem is finaly resolved. Thanks in advance. Yours sincerely, Buzzetti MartínSolved3.8KViews1like2CommentsUPNP no longer works
I just updated to Firmware V1.0.3.16 After the router completed the update, UPNP no longer works. I have tried rebooting the router several times but the port is not being automatically forwarded to the computer on the network. I have never had an issue with this before. Two ports that are usually handled are transmission and Plex. I manually forwarded the ports and it is working. But I shouldnt have to manually manage the connections. Any ideas on how to get it working again?Solved4.4KViews0likes7CommentsXR500 and cm1000
