Hi all, I am hoping for some answers/help here. I have a ReadyNAS NV+, model number on the back says RND4000-100 v3. Up until a couple weeks ago it's been a faithful and amazing machine. I had it on a time schedule for auto on/off and one morning it just didn't come on. No bad smells (fried electronics), hooked to a surge protector, etc. Pushing the power button did nothing. No sounds, no lights flickering, nothing. From reading these forums I assumed it was a bad PSU. I tried to secure one through Netgear, but no luck. I found one on eBay that I probably paid too much for (after more reading), replaced it, and now the fan comes on and the hard drive lights flash briefly, but that's it. The LCD screen remains dark and it doesn't sound like anything else is happening. In my panic to preserve my data I tried a couple different programs that claimed to be able to read the NAS' file system. I purchased one of them - RTools for Windows. From drive 1 it recovered the folder I wanted, but only maybe a quarter of it in size. Most of the sub folders are empty. I assume that this is because it was a 4 drive system and the data is spread out? This is turning out to be a crash course in NASs for me. I'm having a lot of mixed results, and to be honest I don't actually know what I'm doing. It seems prudent to ask for advice here before I actually screw something up. Ideally there would be a way to simply revive the NAS itself of course. If not, I guess I'm looking for the full spectrum of advice here. I have a MacBook and a Windows laptop in the house to troubleshoot with. Any help is greatly appreciated.1.3KViews0likes6CommentsReplacing PSU brick did not solve V+12 Power Is Out Of Normal Range errors
Hi, I've been getting bursts of "V+12 Power Is Out Of Normal Range" messages for a couple of months now. Sometimes they last for a couple of days and then go away for a few weeks, sometimes they last for only a few hours. The unit has been connected to two different UPS units, without making a difference. I replaced the PSU brick (as suggested in other posts), but the errors returned. Not immediately though. And the errors show with both 1 and 2 disks in the unit. I'm running RAIDiator-x86-4.2.31. At this point I'm guessing that the PSU on the chassis itself is failing. Is that a fair assumption? Kind regards, PatrickSolved943Views0likes2Comments3VDUAL power is out of normal range [Expected 3.30 current 3.10]
This is a posting for information only, with information I could not find in other postings. I replaced the PSU in my ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer when the unit started failing to restart after being shut down - but would eventually come on, apparently after warming up. The replacement unit was a Seasonic SS-300SFD as mentioned in other posts, which I sourced from Scan Computers in the UK. The replacement unit had slightly different connectors. Yes, the main 24-pin ATX connector cable was too short, as mentioned in other posts, so I needed an extension cable (30 cm for me). There were two sets of power connectors with two Molex 4-pin plugs each, and a further single power connector with two 5-connector plugs. There are 3 female Molex connectors in the ReadyNAS requiring power (with 2 drives connected to each). When I used two 4-pin plugs from one power line to power the disk drives in the ReadyNAS, I got floods of the message about power being out of range - i.e. one power line was being used for 4 drives (since internally in the ReadyNAS each connector goes to 2 drives). When I rewired the 5-connector line to a 4-connector plug (dropping the orange 3.3V wire), and used that as the third 4-pin plug, it worked fine. (There is also a 4-pin square 12V ATX power connector - no need to adjust that.) I hope this information might help others needing to do something similar to their units.ReadyNAS Pro rebooting and resyncing, with file copy hangups and other issues
I have been using a ReadyNAS Pro RNDP6350-100NAS for many years as a home music server (Logitech Media Server) and backup for my PC and data files. Firmware is 4.2.30. It has not been 100% stable for some time, often hanging on a file copy or other processing activity involving about 200 MB or more. I use Windows 7 Professional with its Explorer file manager, and usually have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to the Task Manager Applications list to End Process to stop operations that will not complete. The odd thing to me is that after 2-3 rounds of this brute-force intervention at the beginning of a session, my system would run stable for all or most the rest of the day. Then, it would occur again after I haven't used it for a while. The last year or so, it has been close to only 10% remaining space in the volume. I had been using auto spindown after 30 minutes, but recently increased the time to 60 minutes. Now it reboots often and sometimes resyncs, mostly during drive activity but sometimes by itself. I recently expanded two of six disks from 2tb to 4tb, using Seagate ST4000VNB08 Ironwolf drives to replace drives with reallocated sector and command timeout problems. The volume expansion occured as normal after rebuilding with the second 4tb disk, but then it resynced about three times before seeming to be stable. It has since resynced a couple more times in the past few days, but mostly it just keeps rebooting when I try to use it. Having a look at the logs, in the past I think it has been rebooting more than I realize because it is in a separate room and I don't hear it. I don't see any problems with the current set of drives as indicated in the Frontview Smart info tables for each drive. Today I took apart the chassis and unplugged and replugged each of the power supply (PSU) connectors a few times to see if there might be corrosion building up, possibly causing the rebooting and other problems I am experiencing. I also did a thorough vaccum. So far, this has made no difference. I ran four memory test passes yesterday, with no errors for the 3gb memory (both slots in use). I wonder if the ST4000VNB08 drives are supported? They seem to have had the normal Seagate model # updates to the original ST4000VN000 that is listed on the Netgear ReadyNAS approved list, which says this drive "should" work. Regardless, the unit has not been 100% for some time, so I am not sure whether the new drives have created any of the more recent problems. I recently ran an offline file check and data scrub without errors. At this stage, I wonder if it needs a new PSU, or if there is a software fix? I'd rather not get a new unit, but I realize these things don't last forever. Fortunately, I have a recent, nearly 100% backup, spanned across multiple USB drives. Comments and suggestions much appreciated. Thanks! Some Recent Logs: Mon May 22 19:04:27 EDT 2017 System is up. Mon May 22 18:02:04 EDT 2017 System is up. Mon May 22 17:44:59 EDT 2017 System is up. I have a readynas 316 with four numbers of 2 TB HDD. From today morning, it is not powering On. Since its under warranty, I dialed the customer care, spoke with them, and they told they will replace the Chassis, and creasted the RMA. Since the HDDs are working fine, is it ok by swapping the the existing HHDs to the new one, or do I have to give for any Data recovery before migrating the HDDs to the new one. Please advice.??? A few months ago the power supply died on my NV+ v1 (RND4250-100NAS). I tried to contact support as suggested in some other forum posts, but couldn't get anywhere with the online form – it only tells me my product is EOL and provides no options to actually contact anyone or open a case. I've read other forum posts from just a few months ago suggesting it might be possible to get a replacement PSU: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/ReadyNAS-NV-Fails-to-Power-Up-after-Power-Failure/m-p/1100816 https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Hardware-Compatibility/ReadyNAS-NV-won-t-turn-on-power-supply-issue-27356934/m-p/1124966#U1124966 I've also seen some as far back as a couple years ago saying there are no more PSUs available. It's also not clear whether or not my unit falls under the Service Action, and whether or not that actually matters. So i'm not sure what my options are. I've done all the basic troubleshooting steps like trying different power outlets, and swapping power cords. I remember smelling a burnt electrical smell the time i tried to power it on but it wouldn't. Zero activity since then – no lights, sounds, or anything. It's almost certainly a failed PSU. Serial number: 21T193RE0049ReadyNAS Duo. Today wont power on (was shutdown fine via Frontview) - options please?
Dear all As well as having the flu I am crying at the NAS. I have an ReadyNAS Duo v1 from about 2012 ish I guess. It has 2 x 2TB drives at about 65 percent full. My Zigor UPS died yesterday. So i have binned that. I moved the ReadyNAS plug to another socket and it was fine. All worked well. This morning I had to remove the UPS so I shut the office down, and shut the NAS via front view. All well. Replugged everything and now it will not start. I have tried a different plug and have ordered a new 12v PSU from AMazon and I really hope it works as like you all my life is on there. So my questions are please? 1) has this ever happened to any of you and will the new PSU fix it 2) if it doesnt do you know what I can do other than buy the same one again put the drives in (but I am guessing it will sync and delete 3) any idea how I can resuce the drives and data please of it will not turn on? 4) say its all dead - whats the best option for replacing... I do not stream from it its just storage but I liked the redundancy of the drives. Do I just use cloud? 5) any help gratefully received. I shutdown my NV+ on Friday night, expecting a large storm while I was out. Tried to power on Saturday morning ubt NV+ not responding - no lights on front panel. I tried tapping the power button, with no effect. I removed the power cable then re-connectted it; no effect. I've seen on this forum multiple reports of similar issue, which suggests the PSU needs to be replaced. (I also saw warnings not to hit the reset button, so I've avoided that.) https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/ReadyNAS-NV-Fails-to-Power-Up-after-Power-Failure/m-p/1096946#U1096946 https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Hardware-Compatibility/ReadyNAS-NV-power-suppy/m-p/1086573#M14126SolvedReadyNAS NV+ (RND4000)- Will boot and sync volumes but will shut down 10-15 minutes after booting
I can boot the device and it will load fine. With no consistency, it will shut down some 10-15 minutes after booting. The power switch will not work again unless I unplug the power cable from the back of the unit and re-attach it. Then it will boot again.... PSU? Something else? The issue with the switch has me perplexed but the unit runs fine....until it doesn't. Unit is clean, vacuumed, blown out with air, etc.2.2KViews0likes1Comment
