I have followed the various support instructions but have failed to get Genie to log into OpenDNS. I receive the following: There was an error signing in, please make sure you're connected to the Internet and try again. I managed to log in from my IPAD once and created an OpenDNS account. All seemed fine but now I am unable to access parental controls on Windows or IOS. I have even deleted my OpenDNS account and recreated it using Genie - did not work. I have tried creating an account directly on OpenDNS - did not work. I can however log in directly to the OpenDNS site. Very frustrated as I purchased my R7800 router specifically for the parental controls. Firmware version is: V1.0.2.0410KViews1like38CommentsR7800 and DFS Channels usage
Just installed a Netgear R7800. Seems like the most recent FW supports DFS channels. Can someone tell me the pros/cons of using these channels, say over 48, 149, or 161? I live downtown Chicago, so there is a lot of 5ghz traffic in my neighborhood. Also, any downfall to using HT160? Not sure if any of my Apple products support it or not.Solved10KViews0likes3CommentsR7800 Internet LED Blinking
Hi: My Nighthawk router's Internet LED continues to flash white when the Internet connection to my ISP drops. I reboot the router (and my PC) and the orange no connection light blinks for a few seconds and then changes to white (even though the connection is down). I am working with a local WISP. The antenna/radio is on the roof and power and data are transferred over Cat6 cabling through a Powerline injector. There is a Cat6 cable from the injector to the Nighthawk (then from the Nighthawk to a Gigabit switch to my PC and other devices). This has happened since I first purchased the modem, and it does this regardless of what firmware version I use (I just updated to 1.0.2.28 and still have this problem. When I directly access the router via the Admin Interface, the first screen will show Internet Disconnected and is red, even though the white LED is still blinking. Is this router defective or am I missing something?
Just purchased the R7800 and I cant see anyway to configure Vlan in advanced settings. Looks as if I bought a pup, not made clear in the specs. I assumed R7000 meant the series. bye bye netgear foreverSolved8.3KViews0likes5CommentsR7800 does not work with DPC3216 modem
Hello everyone, I tried searching for my problem and did not find any solutions. I purchased the R7800 and tried to set it up with my DPC3216 (Spectrum) modem today. I correctly power cycled the modem and connected it to the R7800, and the R7800 had all of the correct lights as solid white. I then tried (via wired connection) to finish the setup process on my PC. The negear genie popped up in my firefox browswer. I tried to do the automated setup process (did not work) and also manual setup process (also did not work). The internet works fine if I connect my PC directly to the modem and power cycle the modem. The internet also works fine if I go back to my old tp-link router and power cycle the modem. I also power cycled the modem with my PC directly connected (internet worked) and then attempted to use the R7800 and clone the MAC address of my PC. This still did not work. Has anyone gotten the R7800 working with the DPC3216 modem? I have spent several hours troubleshooting multiple combinations of solutions and am really stuck here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.Solved8.2KViews0likes6CommentsParental controls not working on any of my two NETGEAR routers
Hello, I have setup Parental Controls on my two routers (Nighthawk R7800 and WNDR4300). In https://netgear.opendns.com I can see the two devices. Even if I set the filtering level to "high" and it is clearly marked as "enabled" in Genie, no site is ever blocked on any of my wifi devices connected via these two routers (Android, OSX, iPhone). Am I doing something wrong or is it really the case that parental controls do not work on Netgear routers? Note that the latter would be very disapponting (and triggering an immediate action to buy a different router). Please help. Best regards MarekSolved7.9KViews0likes6CommentsR7800 and Nest Protect
Hello, I have a netgear R7800 on the latest firmware (.28) and I'm having issues with Nest Protect. Before buying and installing the Netgear I had my (now modem), in router mode and Nest Protect worked fine. The Nest protect is a 2.4 Ghz device only. When I do the original setup and check attached devices it briefly shows up, then it drops from the network and never seems to get back on. I have done the following. Each change made, I factory reset the protect and re-add it onto my Nest account. Changed from auto to channel 6 Changed from 800Mbps to 347 Reserved the IP of the device against the MAC and forwarded some ports following a conversation with Nest support as a test (I never had to do this on the old router) Enabled the guest network and joined it that Enabled the guest network to have access to the LAN. All of the above to no avail. All my other devices are on 5Ghz, or Ethernet. However I joined my phone to 2.4Ghz and used it fine for a day, so this seem isolated to this device. Access control is disabled QOS is switched off Parental controls are disabled I'm using OpenDNS instead of my ISP's UPnP is enabled. Anymore information required, please let me know.Solved7.4KViews0likes13CommentsR7800 5ghz disappearing for a short time
R7800 randomly drops the 5ghz band and restore it back. "Select wifi network" window appears on my iPad 4 (ios 9.3.5), but when I choose "cancel" button it immediately reconnect to wifi network and everything working. No actions required to restore the network. It happens several times a day if I use iPad for a long time, so that I can see this message on a screen. firmawre V1.0.2.20Solved7KViews0likes10Comments
