Reset
9 TopicsTrying to change the name of my router on the extender
This is frustrating. I have a new router (R7000). It has a new name and password. There are 2 speeds on the router, The 5G speed still has the name of the old router, however it connects with the password of the new router. I wanted to correct this by logging into the extender. I don't know the password to the extender access. So... I'm on the "Extender Password Recovery." I got to this by putting in the serial number of the EX6100. Now it wants me to answer two security questions. I answer the questions -- they are not answers that I don't know --- my sister's first name, my father's middle name... Then I get "The information you entered does not matcch what is saved on the routher." AFAIK I've never given this information to my (R7000) router!! I might have given it to the extender... when it was connected to the old router... Is there anyway to completely reset this extender?R6100 w/ no active LAN ports, after reset, can I access router wirelessly
I have full use of the WIFI aspect of my R6100 router. None of the LAN ports work w/ any of my devices (TV, desktop, laptop). I use both frequencies, 2.5 and 5, and both work w/ my devices. I've done the WAN to LAN port test and get blue and amber LEDs lit up, so I guess the LAN ports are "active". I've unplugged modem and router, multiple times and still have same situation. I'm left w/ doing a reset to default settings. If I do that, and the LAN ports still don't work, (making hard wire router setup impossible) will I be able to access the router wirelessly to re-set my security settings? I'd still like to be able to use the WIFI function while a wait for a new router to be delivered. Sorry if this is a foolish question, but I don't want to be left stranded for a few days by doing the reset. Thanks allSolvedR7900 5G-2 Band Drops Speed from 200mbps to 2mbps
Hi. Over the past week I've noticed the 5G-2 band on my R7900 will drastically drop speed for no noticeable reason. Last week I change the broadcast channel from 149 to 161, which I thought was the source of the issue. Router did a soft reset after applying new channel setting and speeds went back to normal. Fast forward a week and the same drop in speed happened again. This time I just did a soft reset and left the channel the same. Speed went right back to normal after reset. 2.4G and 5G-1 bands are never impacted when the 5G-2 band is having these issues. I've tested the speeds with multiple devices ~1 foot away from the router. I'm using latest firmware (V1.0.1.4_10.0.12). Any suggestions to fix this issue? Thanks in advance.Solved5.9KViews0likes11CommentsAsking for wpa2 password after factory reset
I logged into my Netgear R7000 with the only intention of changing the passwords for both my 2.4G and 5G bands, to the same thing of course just more encrypted because I'm in the middle of a metropolitan area. When I first got to the homepage there was a firmware update that I performed successfully. I've been changed both passwords to the same thing and updated the page. It seems stuck on this page for several minutes until finally an error message came up across the entire page in bold letters which I told to a customer service rep on the phone. I didn't go ahead with the phone support because I am outside of the 90 day window for free phone support and they wanted to charge me a fair amount of money so I figure I can find everything online, I made a mistake of read starting my Mac laptop at the same time as I power cycled my router and therefore lost the error message before I wrote it down or screenshot it. Anyway I decided to do a factory reset of the router which seemed successful however when I choose my Netgear## from the list of WiFi choices it comes up with a WPA2 password for me to enter. I first tried the default "password". I've tried every password that I've used in reference to this router that I have meticulously kept in my 1password program but nothing works. There is no option for a username. Since Apple has eliminated ethernet ports on their newest laptops and I don't have the adapter for this I am stuck trying to deal with this through Wi-Fi. Worst case scenario oh I can borrow a friends laptop with ethernet but I'm just wondering if this is something that someone has a solution for. I've reset the modem probably 4 different times starting when everything was connected to it and finally the last time resetting it with it only being plugged into a power source. Any help would be appreciated.Solved29KViews0likes4CommentsWNDR3400v3 N600 Wireless Dual Band Router password reset instructions don't work
I don't understand why when I ran antivirus software it alerted me I have a weak router username and password. I have set a new username and password and have clicked "apply." But when I follow the instructions which are copied>pasted, below, I get to step 2. and it only accepts the *old* username and password to log in as described in step 2. Then when I do step 4 and click on "Wireless," it opens up the page and displays the *new* updated SSID and Passphrases, NOT the *old* username and password I had to type in in step 2. Why do they not match? I want to update my "too weak" username and password but it does not appear to be saving it based on going through the provided steps, below. Even more confusing: Step 6 is not accurate because there is no field with that name. There is a field named "passphrase," but not a field named "Password (Network Key)." I have clicked the "apply" button but then when I log out and try to log back in again, once again it asks for a username and password but will only take the *old* one, and my antivirus scan repeats that the username and password are still too weak. Here are the steps NETGEAR offers me online for my model: Article ID: 23439 To change your WiFi password or network name (SSID): Launch an Internet browser and type http://www.routerlogin.net into the address bar. If you are having problems accessing routerlogin.net, visit Router login page cannot be displayed or is blank. Enter the router user name and password when prompted. The default user name is admin. The default password is password. Click OK. The BASIC Home page displays. Select Wireless. Enter your new user name in the Name (SSID) field. Enter your new password in the Password (Network Key) fields. Click the Apply button. Your changes are saved.SolvedNighthawk R8000 Issues - Intermittent Disconnection and now can't login after reset to factory defau
Good morning, I have been using this Netgear Nighthawk router for quite some time and have been overall very happy with how far it will transmit signal through the house and the speed we get over the wifi. However over the past month it has been randomly having issues where it gets to a point during any part of the day where it continues to cycle and no one can connect to it consistently and if they are there is no internet. I finally called it quits this morning and decided to do a factory reset on it to try and solve the problem. However it has now created an even bigger problem. I can no longer access the login page for the router. Every time I enter in the ip address for the router it tries to take me to a website rather than the router login page and then says I am not connected to the internet. However windows thinks I am connected to the internet according to the Network and Sharing Center, though I have tried accessing other sites and I am clearly not on the internet. I have tried resetting again using the button on the back, watching the power light until it starts flashing and then releasing for the reset, but that hasn't worked either. I also read some things about running it through another router and connecting that way but it won't work etiher. If I cannot connect to it then I am going to assume it is trashed and toss it. I did try calling technical support but they wouldn't help me with it since it was out of warranty and the previous owner was an old room mate before he left the router with me. Any help would be appreciated here. The router was using Firmware Version V1.0.3.4_1.1.2Solved4.6KViews0likes5CommentsEX6200 wifi extender is frozen. won't reset - frozen with the numbers 1-5 lit up.
In tears here with this thing. I've hardly used this machine: it's been sat safely on a shelf for a year. I managed to get it working a few weeks ago after hours of faffing, only to turn it off at the wall (I don't want things left on in my room at night, so I can't see how this should be a problem) and for it to not work anymore. I made no changes to my BT network on the BT hub5 during that time--didn't even turn it off. It never worked as it says in the book/ the 5ghz light only lit now and then, even when I was connecting to it. This happened on two machines as I returned the first, so i assumed it was my fault and never got round to conatcing support or getting my money back in warranty as I was away. Now it won't reset using the pinhole button. I've turned it on and off, unplugged it for 10 minutes, plugged it into the Mac and the wifi router following vcarious directions on here. Its frozn with the numbers 1-5 lit up. Nothing else happens. These are on even without an ethernet cable in a port. I'm at my wits end here. i spemt £100 on this thing and its never worked properly. I cant reset it using the online method as the router wont even light up or connect. help! :-(3.8KViews0likes1Comment
