38 TopicsGS1xxE and their PoE equivalents. Getting them an IP using DHCP on a specific vlan.
Hello to anyone taking the time to read this. I have close to a dozen netgear GS1xxE switches at my home and various family member's homes by now and swear by the things. Vlan tagging is a must for our various setups and these switches haven't disapointed yet. However , when it comes to configuring them, the fact one is incapable of selecting the vlan on which the things do their DHCP negotiating forces me to use fixed IP's. In essence this isn't all that bad. But adding this to the firmware isn't something unreasonable to ask I would think. http://i.imgur.com/JZEvBx4.png http://i.imgur.com/p9evrYY.png Thanks in advance for taking the time to reply. If you also think this slight oversight should be rectified please do reply.70KViews21likes16CommentsWhy is there no DHCP Lease settings on a $200+ top tear router?
I need a Router with a DHCP Less time setting, I'm going to have to sell my R7000 or custom flash it becase a DHCP Lease time of 24hrs is a Very very short sighted setting. This setting causes 10's of 100's of 1000's of people grief every year with their home and small business networks. Examples of issues: #1 (I've made lots of money on this one) Home network and small businees networks cannot print or find ip based network devices when they shut down for a week for vacations because they are setup with the IP they had at the time! #2. People who like to save energy ofter turn off their home network printers when not needed, if the printer is setup by IP address by the automated software, its screwed when you turn it on a week or 4weeks later when you need it. Most people reinstall the printer ending up with two and a large headache. This isn't limited to printers, but printer make up the most common network item turned off, I know of file servers that power down any time the company has a shut down longer then 3 days. #3. A DHCP of 72hrs is the best over all lease time. This allows for machines to be powered down over the weekend, which for small businesses in Hot climates is often required. Now if your a over zellous control freak and only share a block of 10 IP's, for the DHCP server, then thats your own fault. So without having to hard code every device on your network, or Add a extra running machine dedicated to providing the DHCP leasing... Adjusting the lease time is the best for the Envirment (polution & energy & longivity wise) and provides a more stable home network! If Netgear wants to provide the best, then they need to step up and stop some of the limited thinking and allow people to set their own DHCP lease times. Please provide the ability to adjust my lease time on my r7000 router! -- Disapointed with Neatgear! :(Solved27KViews1like16CommentsDHCP not traversing switch Part 2
Hi, Unfortunatly I have a follow up issue to my last issue here. This time however only the Netgear is involved. I have performed various tests already and it boild down to that the S3300 does not seem to pass on DHCP traffic at all at the moment. Test setup: I have a box A on Port 12 and a box B on Port 13. On B there is a dhcp server active and tcpdump on 67/68 udp. I start a dhcp request on box a connected via Netgear switch - I don't see any requests. On Box A I can see the requests being sent out with wireshark, but o/c no replies. A static IP on Box A results ins perfectly fine communication, no issues. Now I used another switch (cheap 8 port) and attached box A and B to it and with that switch DHCP is working fine, tcpdump listing everything. Both boxes are on VLAN 1, no security features active, no helper, relay or anything. S3300 (stack of 2) is on latest FW (6.6.4.7) but I think the issue was present before. I noticed weird behaviour for about 2 weeks but can't really tell what I could have changed to cause this :( Lost again :(Solved17KViews0likes17CommentsDHCP - Need to release IP addresses
Hi, I want a "release" function on UTM50 as it is in many other routers. We often do a lot of test on PDA's and tablets and the IP addresses is not enough. The test itself take maybe 15 minutes and then we take one more units and so on (we also have 5 to 10 units at the same time). The standard lease is 24 h and we have lowered it to 1 h but that is not enough for us. A simple release function should do the trick, then we can release the units we want or just release all. This function is on a lot of routers today.15KViews4likes1CommentDHCP Question
This is a pre-sales question. I am looking to have set up a client network with 3 VLANs; one for guest WiFi access, one for VoIP, and one for the staff / back office workers. I thought a Netgear L3 switch would have the ability to assign the onboard DHCP to a specific VLAN, meaning I could have 3 DHCP address pools - one assigned to each VLAN. I cannot find anywhere in the 7000/7200/7300 L3 switch reference manual where it discusses specifically how to do this. Am I just blind or is this not possible? TIA.11KViews0likes1CommentPlease provide administrator webpage for DHCP lease admin
Please refer to this topic where the router was struggling to hand out a new IP adress via DHCP : https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R7000-DHCP-offer-but-no-connection-can-be-ma... On a router of this level, would a admin page that can control DCHP not be a minimal requirement? I am talking about a page that would show leased IP adresses and corresponding MAC adress. Also the possibility to change the lease time and to delete certain leases. A log file that would show DHCP offers and responses. With the current interface you are totally blind.11KViews2likes1CommentDHCP Response not traversing stacked switches
Hi, hopefully only another user error, but at the moment I am out of ideas again. I have 2 S3300's (FW 6.6.17) [A1,A2] connected via stacking in 2 different rooms. On one of the 10G Ports another switch (B) is connected via Trunk, on that switch a bunch of boxes are connected. I have issues getting DHCP to work over the two stacked switches, all regular traffic (non broadcast i suppose fine). Local DHCP within Switch B is working fine, as is DHCP only using A1 (have not tested "A2 only"), but not the routes "Client ->A1->A2->B" or "Client->B->A2->A1". I can see DHCP Offers cross the line reaching my DHCP servers (one 2012 DHCP, one linux based one) on each room, but no actual DHCP replies get sent back. I have one client and one Server in A1, one Client and one Server in B (VMs) I have setup port mirroring on the uplink port 1/28 (which is on A2 and connected to Switch B) and capture DCHP Requests from B->A1, but the DHCP Server on A1 does not see them. I have set up a client on A1 requesting from B and can see requests arriving on B but the answer never arrives back at A1 So basically traffic flows as follows: Client (in either room) sends out DCHP request, this get received by DHCP server in other room. DHCP Server replies with OFFER, but OFFER never reaches Client. I used wireshark/tcpdump/port mirroring to verify this behaviour but can't really explain it :( Easiest would be to break the stack and just link them via trunk but that can't be it... Any idea how to troubleshoot this? ThanksSolved8.9KViews0likes13CommentsFVS336Gv3 - How to connect to IPoE and get dynamic address?
I have a Netgear FVS336Gv3 dual-WAN router. I am trying to configure it to connect via a bridge-mode Actiontec T3200 modem (Windstream DSL). Windstream informs me that this connection uses IPoE instead of PPPoE, and instructed me to configure the router in dynamic (DHCP) mode. For some reason, the router does not get a public IP address assigned to the WAN port when connected to this modem. I tested by connecting my laptop directly to the T3200 and the laptop is immediately assigned a public IP address (NOT a private address) and can access the internet. I have a Spectrum Business modem connected to the other WAN port of this router, and it obtains an address and works fine. Any guidance is appreciated.Solved8.3KViews0likes4CommentsEX7000, impossibile ottenere l'indirizzo IP
Grazie in anticipo per l'attenzione.7.8KViews0likes1CommentDHCP IP address conflict using Wnr2200 as wireless access point in a Windows network
Hi everibody, I'm using a WNR2200 router only as a wi-fi access point to our lan, which has already a DHCP server. The lan DHCP server is excluding some address in a range (e.g. from .50 to .100) since these addresses are used by some server to give them a static IP in our lan. WNR2200 too has its lan address in that range. DHCP server in WNR2200 is disabled, so any device wi-fi connected should use the lan DHCP server, but in the last days some wireless attached device has an IP in that excluded range (e.g. a smartphone connects and gets the .74 IP), so sometimes we have an IP conflict. We haven't changed anything both in the WNR2200 configuration and in the DHCP server configuration, but this wrong ip assignment is still happening also after a server and /or WNR2200 reboot. How may I prevent the WNR2200 access point to assign a "forbidden" IP to a wi fi connected device? Thank you in advance for your help.Solved
