New firmware for Orbi 971/970 V12.1.10.12_5.3.16 currently available only through the Orbi app. Router and satellites upgraded to the new firmware via the Orbi app with no issues. No release notes available at this time. NA region only until cleared for other regions via official Netgear sources. Be sure after doing a dirty install to do a clean install on your router/satellite(s) to avoid unnecessary network complications. Hi, I have a ORBI RBE971 router with two 970 satellites. I can't find anywhere to set up QoS. I've been an ORBI user since they first came out, and have gone through most generations of the systems. I've always been able to set QoS under the Advanced section of the web page, but there is no longer such a menu entry. Has the 971 lost QoS capability? Seems odd for the flagship device. For about a year and a half, I dealt with frequent drops on my Orbi system. A couple months ago, I got serious. Drops were daily, sometimes multiple times. I have about 150 devices, mostly Lumary recessed lights. Cool, but noisy. I’m replacing them with Hue lights for their bridge. I use Kasa switches, but I’m switching to Lutron Caseta with a bridge, plugging into a satellite. The USB-powered fans I found on Amazon fit like a glove on the router and satellites—almost as if made for them. With the fan, temps dropped from 100°F to 75-80°F. The last 24 hours—no drops. Crashes used to happen when everyone streamed; now stable. I’ll add these $15 fans to satellites too. With Hue and Lutron bridges, I’m hoping to clean up network noise even more!110Views1like5Commentsdéconnexion internet intempestive 971
I had this same....exact....problem..... Only had the Router + 2 Satellites for 4 to 5 days. Tried everything you said as well and convinced Amazon to send me a new trio and I'll return the existing trio. Tried to get them to just replace the faulty satellite but they can't. Oh the joy of having to setup everything from scratch again and add all the nicknames twice within a 2 week period.134Views0likes2CommentsWIFI 8
You all see wifi 8 is now a thing and other companies promoting it. I thought the orbi 970 was future proofing ? with this new wifi 8 it seems like we are soon to be getting new hardware again for wifi 8? We are still here waiting on wifi 7 to work properly lol. Most of us using wifi 7 which doesnt show you are on wifi 7 because it still shows your connection as 5ghz Little to no 6ghs connection. On a few devices like the samsung phones shows what ghz you are connected to beside the wifi and I have still yet to see wifi 7 showing up there.447Views0likes8CommentsManual update to 9.13.2.1 from V9.12.3.3_1.2.20
I had two Orbi 970 systems, both running 9.12.3.3_1.2.20. I tried to manually update one to 9.13.2.1 downloaded from the Netgear support site. The satellites worked fine. The router bricked. I am hesitant to try again on the second system. Has anyone else made this leap manually without problems? (auto updates seem to be disabled). No major issues at the moment so I'm leaning toward leaving it alone for now and waiting to see what happens when the mystery 12.X lands.249Views0likes9CommentsDropped WiFi Connection
I've seen discussions on this topic of the mesh system dropping the WiFi connection and reverting to 5G all the way back to 2023 but almost all of the reported issues are with iPhones. I have two Google Pixel 10 Pro cellphones along with the latest Netgear equipment/firmware (Orbi 971 and two Orbi 970 satellites). I encounter this problem every day with always a full WiFi signal strength and almost good (two bars) 5G Verizon signal (I don't live under a cell phone tower). The usual resolution is to disconnect and reconnect the WiFi connection in the Pixel 10 network settings. Most of the blog posted solutions since 2023 revert to turning off the automatic Wi-Fi connection setting where "Wi-Fi will turn back on near high quality saved networks, like your home network". This change in the Pixel 10 configuration for me is stupid beyond belief. When the Wi-Fi is dropped and the Pixel reverts to 5G, I will randomly get such error messages as low quality Wi-Fi signal, a failure in the iP configuration, etc., etc. None of the error messages seem to be valid, more like an excuse to drop the Wi-Fi. Given enough time (~ 10 to 20 minutes), the Pixel 10 Pro will eventually hook up with the Wi-Fi signal but I take a serious hit in connection speed while on the Verizon 5G cell signal. Since it appears that this overall problem has been occurring since 2023, is this still the situation? I have concluded that moving from a Pixel 6 to a Pixel 10 along with moving from a Nighthawk mesh system to an Orbi 971 mesh system has been nothing but a big step backward. Any concrete suggestions would be much appreciated.332Views0likes8Comments
