Great question, and already stated they do not provide that information. A more important comment to all of us is that Netgear end of life is really way before they provide the email trying to get you to buy another one of their routers. In my case on my R9000 I just got it the email last week. I was curious so I looked to see when last software update was provided and fell off my chair laughing. 1.0.5.42 was released in 2022. So they really don't care about any security issues over the last 3 years. I purchased mine in 2020 and had lots of issues with updates in the first 2 years. Not sure yet if I am going to buy a different brand next time.21Views0likes3CommentsR9000 dropping connections
R9000 is dropping connections every few min. I replaced the modem because the cable company said it was to slow. Replaced with net gear so I thought it would be compatible to r9000. Other than rebooting I am not sure what else to try. Any suggestions are appreciated.35Views0likes2CommentsX10 question, 2.5Gbit solutions etc..
Hi all, I bought a Nighthawk X10 a while back for $10 at thrift. Love this thing, but I'm now faced with a forced upgrade from my ISP (no complaints, it's the same price). My issue: the X10's ports are 1Gbit and won't be able to utilize the 1200Mbit upgrade, however, there IS the matter of that 10Gbit SFP+ port.. I know what it is, but not sure if the X10 allows it to be used for anything other than a NAS. Here's my situation though: Xfinity, going from 800Mbps to 1200Mbps. I'm in the market for a new modem, quite possibly a CM3000 (for below cost due to built up rewards) or a Motorola B12. Both modems are supported, both handle up to 2.5Gbps. My question is, do I stay with the x10 and buy a switch that has an SFP+ port and divides the load into four 2.5Gbps ports (allowing me to utilize my 1200Mbps subscription), or buy an RS100 router for $150, or, try to connect my PC directly to the SFP+ port on the X10 using a dedicated NIC that has an SFP+ port? Off topic, I know there's some firmware updates by voxal, I haven't looked into those yet. What do they offer by comparison to the EOL firmware from NG?Solved87Views0likes8CommentsUPNP no longer works
I just updated to Firmware V1.0.3.16 After the router completed the update, UPNP no longer works. I have tried rebooting the router several times but the port is not being automatically forwarded to the computer on the network. I have never had an issue with this before. Two ports that are usually handled are transmission and Plex. I manually forwarded the ports and it is working. But I shouldnt have to manually manage the connections. Any ideas on how to get it working again?Solved4.4KViews0likes7CommentsR9000 unable to see and manage in my ReadyCLOUD web page.
Hello. I own an R7000, an R8500 and an R9000. The R7000 now uses it as a wifi bridge in my home network, but a few years ago it was my router with which I registered in MyNetgear and ReadyCLOUD. I had no problem to remotely access via ReadyCLOUD either to the USB stick inserted in the R7000 or to the nas RN104 of my network. Then I bought and installed the R8500 instead of the R7000 and even then I never had any problems with ReadyCLOUD. The problems started when I bought the R9000 and installed it instead of the R8500. Through ReadyCLOUD I can see and manage the RN104 nas but I can not see the R9000 router. I went from within the router setup page to cancel the subscription to ReadyCLOUD and repeat it but without success. I have always updated the firmware of the R9000 like that of the nas RN104 and of the R7000 bridge. What can I do to get back to seeing my router from ReadyCLOUD?Solved2.8KViews0likes9CommentsNighthawk X10 R9000 Router and Nighthawk X4S EX7500 Extender Issues
Just replaced my R8300 with the R9000 (V1.0.3.6) and also using EX7500 (V1.0.0.38). After bringing the EX7500 into the network many wireless devices frequently drop and re-add to the network (monitored in Netgear Genie), IP Addresses are frequently changed (using DHCP), the R9000 seems to forget many device types I previously updated (reported in Network Map), and the R9000 just does not seem to play well with the EX7500. Are there issues with compatibility? What suggestions do you have?2.1KViews0likes6CommentsCan't disable 60GHz 802.11ad Broadcast Name from being transmitted
Model: Netgear R9000 / AD7200 Nighthawk X10 Router The 60Ghz LED is lit on the router, and under the "Advanced Wireless Settings (60GHz 802.11ad)", the "Enable Wireless Router Radio" is unchecked, but the "Broadcast Name" is still transmitting. All of the other bands are unchecked and aren’t transmitting, so why is this the only one? I've tried every possible configuration in the router setup, but nothing works. Any idea on how to turn it off?Solved4.1KViews0likes3Comments[X10 (R9000)] cannot regenerate or invalidate VPN credentials
I'm shocked I spent so much on a high end router, and I'm stuck with the static OpenVPN configuration on the router. There is no way to invalidate old keys, generate new keys, or have multiple active keys. This is a significant security design issue. Once you give a key out, or if you accidentally expose it, there is no way to kill it. Even if you are the only user using your VPN, there is a chance your device can be stolen or compromised, forcing you to question whether your home VPN credentials have also been compromised. There is no reason why you should need to buy a new router just to rotate your keys. The kicker is the manual even suggests changing the default SSID and network password. I don't know why they wiould suggest this if they thought the default installation was private and secure. If Netgear believes it is better security to use your own custom security credentials, then they should allow you to do the same with the OpenVPN configuration. The OpenVPN feature on the X10 is too minimal to be trusted.Solved4.3KViews2likes8CommentsNo more recessed USB ports
I've had two USB thumb drives overheat and crash (consistantly). Here are the model numbers: 1.) A super-mini thumb drive by Lexmark (32GB, USB3.0 JumpDrive S45 - LJDS45-32GABEU (I liked the low profile, but it clearly couldn't dissipate heat as the USB port on the R9000 is recessed... 2.) A longer thumb drive by Sandisk that has a metal housing (32GB USB3.0 Ultra Flair SDCZ73-032G) which I thought could dissipate heat, but it just can't... The only solution to this is a USB extension cable. NetGear's KnowledgeBase regarding "tested USB drives" is terribly short, and woefully incomplete: https://kb.netgear.com/18985/Will-my-USB-drive-work-with-ReadySHARE (it refers to the "SanDisk 64GB" as being compatible, but it DOES NOT give the model number like it does for every other device listed) The R9000's two USB3.0 ports are positioned under the router's overhanging plastic chasis. This does not allow for heat to disapate from the pen drives, which become too hot to touch. I recomend that future models have the USB ports flush with the router's outermost walls.5.4KViews1like0Comments
