Hello everybody, we would like to use NMS300 to save the config of our 40 Netgear Switches (M4100 series, different models) automatically every night, but this requires telnet to be enabled on all switches (confirmed by Netgear Expert Bruce_G: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Managed-Switches/NMS300-config-backup-with-telnet-disabled/m-p/1161992/thread-id/2682#M2753) I think that transmitting a password for administrative access in cleartext over the network isn't best practice, especially for a product which claims to be enterprise ready. Would you please implement an option for a scheduled config saving and other mass actions like firmware update for all switches via an encrypted conection? It should be possible to disable telnet on the switches without disabling any funcionality (apart from logging in via telnet of course..) ;-) Thanks in advance! You can connect via "telnet 192.168.1.1 5510" to gain access to "AT shell" which responds to various AT commands, e.g. status or band selection. "at!entercnd" is the command for band selection but it needs a password. What is the password? It's not any of the common ones it usually is.Enable Telnet on R7000
Hi, I tried a lot of ways to enable telnet service without success....Searching in the community, I saw that there are others people interested of this function on the R7000 AC1900 Smart WiFi Router Nighthawk. These are some examples of posts in the communty: 1) Enabling telnet on R7000 2) Telnet not working on latest firmware (V1.0.9.10_1.2.21) 3) How to enable telnet on this router? Please, can you release a FW with this feature? Thanks!13KViews0likes3CommentsR8500 how to unlock wifi region
I've just unlocked a R8500 bought in US and now working in EU. You know that all the router wifi that are selled in US market have wifi region locked to United States or North America, but I've found a solution putting togheter ideas from community. You should connect not in wifi but wired to your router and for me have worked and if you try is at your risk if you are not sure stop youself. Step 1: You should enable Telnet on your R8500 and the solution is http://routerlogin.net/debug and you check as active the Telnet check box. Step 2: On you computer you have Telnet active, on Linux is by default on Windows 10 it's an add-on that you can activate from app / program installation Step 3: Assume you are now on Win10/8/7 you should activate command window with CMD Step 4: Activate at prompt the Telnet Step 5: The first Telnet command is "open" "IP address" of your R8500 and user and password as usual I've not tried routerlogin.net but I suppose that is working Step 6: at prompt command "burnsku" to check the actual configuration that should be "0x0001" Step 7: at prompt command "burnsku 0x0002" and you unlock the wifi region selection, you should give the "burnsku" to check the upadte a 0x0002 Step 8: Restart your R8500 and your Wifi region is now unlocked and you can choose your location.Solved8.4KViews2likes2CommentsNMS300 config backup with telnet disabled?
Hello everybody, we would like to use NMS300 to save the config of our 40 Netgear Switches automatically every night, but it seems that this requires telnet to be enabled on all switches. Is this by design or did I miss something? Transmitting a password for administrative access in cleartext over the network isn't best practice - to say the least... Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! Hello, when logging into the router via telnet and accessing the fw / lan-wan settings, I cannot use the show function nor can I disable or enable any rules. I need this to work for an automated task that should change these parameters. It tells me that I provided too few parameters, however the show functions in the other routing virtual folders seem to work just fine without any additional arguments. Am I missing something, or is there a way to contact Netgear so that they can finally fix this and some other issues in the firmware. Or do I really have to build and flash OpenWrt and do my own, less buggy firmware? Sincerely, Benedikt7.9KViews0likes17Comments
