7 Topicsattached devices shows devices that are physically wired as connected via wireless
Having issues with network "thrashing". General: I put in Orbi a few months back. Continuosly troubleshooting things that I can't quite figure out if I'm having multiple device issues or an Orbi issue. The satellite has already been replaced. Problem: One specific issue I see is that I have a server that is wired directly to Orbi. When looking at attached devices it shows as "2.4Ghz Guest". Wireless is turned off at the server and I don't even have the "Guest" network enabled. If I reboot Orbi it will show "wired" for a few seconds then switch to 2.4Ghz Guest. Once I can figure this out I want to try and determine why some devices show "2.4Ghz guest" vs "2.4Ghz".Can I combine backplane methods in my orbi network
With the newest firmware I have gone to using my orbi in AP mode with my comcast high speed 250 down for the house. The orbi router was proving not up to the task for some reason while using the modem in bridge. I have one satellite up stairs now in a mode that is likely daisychained now since it is closer to the middle satellite than the orbi router/Ap mode. I have a direct Ethernet line to upstairs far corner of the house and could connect that farthest satellite directly to the Comcast modem which is my router now. Would that model be ideal since the farthest satellite would be on an Ethernet backplane, vs daisy chained to the middle satellite. Of course that’s a presumption on my part - I am not sure how to tell if the upstairs is going direct to the orbi AP and thus star or if it’s daisy chaining. Is it supported to have one satellite with a wireless backplane and one on a wired backplane and if so would you plug the wired satellite into the Comcast - my assumption is yes, since my Orbi router is just acting as the main AP. Or would the Orbi want it wired into one of its ports, which presumably are acting just like a hub and still getting their ip’s from the Comcast.RBS50 How to extend to a shed
Hi Have an Orbi RBK50 and RBS50 and need to connect a wired IP Camera by ethernet to an extender of some sort. The Camera is in a remote shed (25m away from the Orbi Satellite 40m from the Orbi Router) on a different power ring so cant use a powerline extender. I am using a Netgear extender at the moment but it keeps dropping out. When it works it works well but its not reliable as part of my CCTV system. Could someone advise the best product (extender) to use with the Orbi.Using Orbi with Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit
Hi - looking for advice on how to best set up my Orbi system with a newly installed Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit internet in a 3-storey wood frame row house. At the moment we have our Verizon modem (Fios Quantum Gateway Router) connected via ethernet cable to the main Orbi router in the basement, and I have 1 x Orbi satellite positioned on each of the upper 2 x floors. Wi-FI on the Fios router has been disabled and AP mode has been applied to the Orbi network as per guidance in various posts - the network operates as expected and performance is relatively solid, though up/down speeds are generally lower than I would hope for with the Fios Gigabit connection. As mentioned, we recently installed a Cat6 network in the house so I am wondering if I can take advantage of it to establish direct physical connections between the main Orbi router and the satellites - plug the main Orbi router into the network patch panel in the basement, and then plug each of the 2 x Orbi satellites into their own ethernet port on the upper floors so communication between the 3 x units is fully wired? I'm no expert, but in theory it seems like this should work and provide a much more robust network than if Orbi system is fully wireless. Any advice/suggestions very much appreciated!Router Speedtest - slow compared with other wired devices on network
In trying to understand why my wifi speeds are so slow since v1.12.0.18... I performed the SPEED TEST option from the Orbi app which uses the OOKLA Speed Test service to test the speed between the router and the internet (no wifi involvled). It seems strange to me that the router is consistently between 35% and 50% slower than the other wired connections on my network. Here's my results from the Orbi app: and here's the results from the OOKLA app on my iMac: Both connecting to the same switch and to the same broadband connection. Shouldn't the router be capable of the same speed as the other wired devices on my network? How can we ever achieve wifi speeds that get near the possible bandwidth available if the router itself does not perform to its potential? Has anyone else seen this with their own set up? (I rund the router in AP mode if that helps) Thanks in advance Matt PS - my wifi performance overall is now terrible since V1.12.0.18 with nothing else changing (no moving of satellites, etc). I am currently getting <20Mbps (if lucky) where I was achieving 10x that - c. 200Mbps - previously.Orbi ethernet speed significantly slower than wifi
My wifi is working great. I pay for 100 mbps download and get at least that through the Orbi wifi. However, when I plug a laptop directly into the ethernet ports it's a whole different story. I get 5 to 9 mbps (90+ percent slower than wifi). I tried plugging the laptop into both the router and satellite and get the same result. I've attached two speedtest screenshots - one of them is using the wifi and the other the ethernet. Interestingly, the upload is virtually the same while the download is 15x slower over ethernet (unusable)Orbi Wired Speeds Unacceptably Slow - Wifi Not Impacted - QoS Issues?
Ever since I have received my Orbi, I have been plauged with wired speed connection issues. My wired connection speed continues to be throttled from 10-20Mbps no matter what steps I take. My wireless speeds across all devices are not impacted at all and get a steady 120-145mbps on every device I can run a speed test on. I run Fast.com, Ookla, and Google's speedtest. Ironically, the Orbi speedtest in the QoS section shows a steady 140-150mbps when running. I have done the following steps to troubleshoot this issue: - Changed wired device I am testing. I have tested 2 laptops (one Toshiba, one Macbook Pro) and my desktop (specs below) - Changed modems (Motorola SB6180 and another from when the Cox tech came out) - Replaced all ethernet cords with new cords from a different source (running from the modem to the Orbi base station, then base station to wired device) - Updated my ethernet drivers (tried various versions, old and new, on both the Toshiba laptop and my desktop) - Factory reset my Orbi 6 times (using both software reset in UI and the paperclip method; twice on all three firmware Netgear has released since I received the Orbi) - Turned off MU-MIMO, Beamforming, WMM QoS, all at different times and in different orders - After running the first Orbi speedtest in the QoS section (after the 2nd firware update added it), I have applied AND not applied the Dynamic QoS prompt (Applying the setting gives me a slight boost in speed about 5mpbs) This is not my first go around with any sort of home networking, but this is definitely the most frustrating. I have never seen a router throttle wired speeds like this and it makes no sense to me why. The QoS page is sorely lacking of any possible information. How do I know it is turned on? Why does the Dynamic QoS prompt only come up a single time and never again? Where are the options to apply QoS to certain IPs/devices? At this point in time, I am 99.9% certain all my problems are stemming from the QoS settings of this router, which are apparently insanely aggressive for wired connections. I would love to hear from anyone that either has experienced these issues or has some sort of new idea to troublshoot. If any Netgear reps are reading, I would truly like to hear from you as what else I can provide in order to get this situated. I want to love the Orbi, but having slow wired speeds is absolutely unacceptable for my day to day experience. Please help me!
