Having issues with network "thrashing". General: I put in Orbi a few months back. Continuosly troubleshooting things that I can't quite figure out if I'm having multiple device issues or an Orbi issue. The satellite has already been replaced. Problem: One specific issue I see is that I have a server that is wired directly to Orbi. When looking at attached devices it shows as "2.4Ghz Guest". Wireless is turned off at the server and I don't even have the "Guest" network enabled. If I reboot Orbi it will show "wired" for a few seconds then switch to 2.4Ghz Guest. Once I can figure this out I want to try and determine why some devices show "2.4Ghz guest" vs "2.4Ghz".R6400 wired connection drops out briefly every half hour or so (wireless never does)
Hello all. This is regarding my R6400 WiFi Router with the most recent firmware (V1.0.1.34_1.0.24). For a long time now my ethernet cable connection from Router to desktop PC (windows 10 64) has disconnected briefely every half hour or so (sometimes more sometimes less it's hard to gauge). I would say it goes out for about 10 seconds then returns. I see a little red X over the internet symbol in the taskbar when this happens so it's definitely going down for whatever reason. It's not the worst problem one can have, but sometimes I play online poker and it can make a huge difference there when in a big pot happening. I really can't risk it anymore and need to solve this. I tried switching which port the cable is plugged into but got the same problem. Any ideas? I guess I could buy another wireless adaptor if I can't solve this since our wireless connections never drop, but I'd rather not have to shell out money when the ethernet connection SHOULD work. Thanks everyone!SolvedCan I combine backplane methods in my orbi network
With the newest firmware I have gone to using my orbi in AP mode with my comcast high speed 250 down for the house. The orbi router was proving not up to the task for some reason while using the modem in bridge. I have one satellite up stairs now in a mode that is likely daisychained now since it is closer to the middle satellite than the orbi router/Ap mode. I have a direct Ethernet line to upstairs far corner of the house and could connect that farthest satellite directly to the Comcast modem which is my router now. Would that model be ideal since the farthest satellite would be on an Ethernet backplane, vs daisy chained to the middle satellite. Of course that’s a presumption on my part - I am not sure how to tell if the upstairs is going direct to the orbi AP and thus star or if it’s daisy chaining. Is it supported to have one satellite with a wireless backplane and one on a wired backplane and if so would you plug the wired satellite into the Comcast - my assumption is yes, since my Orbi router is just acting as the main AP. Or would the Orbi want it wired into one of its ports, which presumably are acting just like a hub and still getting their ip’s from the Comcast.RBS50 How to extend to a shed
Hi Have an Orbi RBK50 and RBS50 and need to connect a wired IP Camera by ethernet to an extender of some sort. The Camera is in a remote shed (25m away from the Orbi Satellite 40m from the Orbi Router) on a different power ring so cant use a powerline extender. I am using a Netgear extender at the moment but it keeps dropping out. When it works it works well but its not reliable as part of my CCTV system. Could someone advise the best product (extender) to use with the Orbi.Wifi Extender for Wired Gaming
I need help with figuring out what the best option for me is. Im currently wanting a wired connection for my online gaming but fpr reason unknown to me im not allowed to be directly plugged into the router would it be better to use a wifi connection or buy a wifi range extender with and ethernet port connect it wirelessly and run the ethernet to my xbox?903Views0likes1CommentUsing Orbi with Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit
Hi - looking for advice on how to best set up my Orbi system with a newly installed Cat6 home network and Verizon Fios Gigabit internet in a 3-storey wood frame row house. At the moment we have our Verizon modem (Fios Quantum Gateway Router) connected via ethernet cable to the main Orbi router in the basement, and I have 1 x Orbi satellite positioned on each of the upper 2 x floors. Wi-FI on the Fios router has been disabled and AP mode has been applied to the Orbi network as per guidance in various posts - the network operates as expected and performance is relatively solid, though up/down speeds are generally lower than I would hope for with the Fios Gigabit connection. As mentioned, we recently installed a Cat6 network in the house so I am wondering if I can take advantage of it to establish direct physical connections between the main Orbi router and the satellites - plug the main Orbi router into the network patch panel in the basement, and then plug each of the 2 x Orbi satellites into their own ethernet port on the upper floors so communication between the 3 x units is fully wired? I'm no expert, but in theory it seems like this should work and provide a much more robust network than if Orbi system is fully wireless. Any advice/suggestions very much appreciated!X10 R9000 wired network running at 100Mbps
I recently bought a X10 R9000 router to replace my old WNDR4500 N900 router, also from Netgear. I have Cat 6 or better ethernet cable running from the cable modem to the router and from the router to two computers. - When the WNDR4500 was installed, I could achieve ~80 - 100 megabytes per second transfer rates between my two wired computers (~gigabit speeds) - The leds on the old router indicated gigabit ethernet connections - I installed the R9000 in the same location and did not change any of the ethernet wiring or the gigabit switches I have in place - The R9000 shows white flashing leds for the two computers, indicating gigabit ethernet connections - When I transfer a large file, the speed clearly tops out at ~10-11 megabytes per second, like it's hitting a hard limit (looks like ~100Mbps ethernet) - I disconnected everything and connected both computers directly to the router using Cat6 cables and I still see the same transfer rate limit - I turned off any QOS settings I could find, but no change I have already checked for new firmware (none available yet). Do I have a defective R9000? I'm really considering returning this and waiting for a less buggy AC7200 router to come out. At this point, my expensive router looks like a downgrade.Solved3.2KViews0likes5CommentsRouter Speedtest - slow compared with other wired devices on network
In trying to understand why my wifi speeds are so slow since v1.12.0.18... I performed the SPEED TEST option from the Orbi app which uses the OOKLA Speed Test service to test the speed between the router and the internet (no wifi involvled). It seems strange to me that the router is consistently between 35% and 50% slower than the other wired connections on my network. Here's my results from the Orbi app: and here's the results from the OOKLA app on my iMac: Both connecting to the same switch and to the same broadband connection. Shouldn't the router be capable of the same speed as the other wired devices on my network? How can we ever achieve wifi speeds that get near the possible bandwidth available if the router itself does not perform to its potential? Has anyone else seen this with their own set up? (I rund the router in AP mode if that helps) Thanks in advance Matt PS - my wifi performance overall is now terrible since V1.12.0.18 with nothing else changing (no moving of satellites, etc). I am currently getting <20Mbps (if lucky) where I was achieving 10x that - c. 200Mbps - previously.Orbi ethernet speed significantly slower than wifi
My wifi is working great. I pay for 100 mbps download and get at least that through the Orbi wifi. However, when I plug a laptop directly into the ethernet ports it's a whole different story. I get 5 to 9 mbps (90+ percent slower than wifi). I tried plugging the laptop into both the router and satellite and get the same result. I've attached two speedtest screenshots - one of them is using the wifi and the other the ethernet. Interestingly, the upload is virtually the same while the download is 15x slower over ethernet (unusable)
