Jan 25, 2017Almost officially done with Netgear Orbi and their support due to not fixing the wifi issues
I am done waiting not hearing anything back from their engineering team to fix this issue. It's been 3 weeks now with no fix. I pretty much told them, they have till Feb. 10th before I purchase a different Mesh system and ditch this crap Orbi. This is ridiculous its taking this long to fix the issue. I work for a living in IT, and work with large products from EMC, CommVault, and have worked with their Dev teams on issues and they resolve them within days of being found.
I can't keep tolerating the disconnecting of my wifi devices (android) like this any longer and having to reboot the routers when another device just decides it doesn't want to connect any longer.
Hello Everyone
We have release firmware version 1.12.0.18 this firmware has fixes for disconnects and many more I posted the release notes below.

If you are still having issues after updating your Orbi unit you may want to factory reset the Orbi and test again. If you are still having disconnect issues or other issues with this firmware please create a new thread or contact our support team.

- RustproofcornLuminaryDid Best Buy take back the orbi?

As I said a few posts above yours, Best Buy did take it back. :)
I literally watched my android phone drop network connection multiple times right in front of me, couldn't believe my eyes. The signal was very strong also. Only 20ish feet from the router. And my firmware is latest. I have joined the others by turning off the beam to see if it helps.
How did the diabling of beam forming work for you in the end?
Frankly I am getting fed up with this.
I have requested a return on Amazon on the basis the product is not fit for purpose.
will see what they say.
- Retired_MemberNice man. How can you set it to 192.168.1.1? I tried to do that and never could figure that one out. Ours still great since install.
I was having trouble updating the firmware so I called support. Took about 10min to fix. While we were waiting to update I told the guy, I didnt want that 192.168.7.1 crap. He said no problem, what do you want? I said, 192.168.1.1 and he logged in my router and did it for me, LOL

- Retired_MemberYou may lose some speed but when reliability is more important speed isn't any more. As long as it's fast wifi with stable connection that's all I cared about.
- Retired_MemberWith my 200 meg down connection I still see over 120-140 speeds at the satellites. Which isn't crap. Maybe there are other issues around your house causing interference.

I tried the Eero once as well, realiablility yeah, very good, nice apps and super easy to setup, however speed was horrible, does not compare with the Orbi at all.
I'm getting 200 up and down on my cellphone. Not the 300 I get on my hardwired PC. still pretty good. Not slow by any means. What good is fast speed on the orbi if it keeps dropping all the time.
- Yld2robLuminaryAgreed. With the latest firmware, i finally have the best speeds and coverage with Orbi. Finally they fixed it
- Retired_MemberDoubtful. Give it time as it will show itself. Turn beam forming back on.

Right now it's solid. Beamforming is not on. Haven't tested that yet. But MU-MIMO is on.

Looks like per your post in another topic, it isn't solid. Using it in only AP mode is not a fix but a work around and not acceptible for a package like this.

You are correct. I had the exact same problem. You need another router and put the orbi in AP mode until Netgear fixes the issue
- Retired_MemberRunning AP mode shouldn't have any effect on wifi from it. All it does is tell the main one to not act as a router.

I wasn't having issues with the wi-fi signal. I was having issues with the routing. It would drop DHCP every 24 hours
- Retired_MemberAh ok. Yea this topics about wifi. :)

I've been testing the Orbi sytem for 3 days now, its been solid. Great speeds over the whole house, no signal drops. Today i wanted to see how far I could place the satellite away from the router. The Orbi router is at the front of my house in my bedroom, and i was able to place the satellite in the back yard 160FT away and the satellite got a solid blue light, and was able to get 230 download/ 23 upload from my phone on 5G, and 236 Download/ 24 upload with my laptop hardlined to the satellite. So far its been a great system!
- Retired_MemberI can't believe how old some of these threads are and yet the modern Orbi on the latest firmware has the exact same issues with frequent disconnects. I am confident it is a hardware issue related to the backhaul dropping but Netgear won't address it. I really regret not checking these forums and only relying on "reviews".
